Job Description – Geologist

Location: Kapeeka, Nakaseke District, Uganda

Job Summary
Twyford International Uganda Ltd. is seeking a competent and detail-oriented Geologist to support the exploration, evaluation, and sustainable extraction of mineral resources for the company's manufacturing operations. The Geologist will be responsible for conducting geological investigations, analyzing mineral deposits, monitoring mining activities, and providing technical recommendations to optimize resource utilization while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Geological Exploration & Resource Evaluation
- Conduct geological mapping, field investigations, and sampling activities.
- Identify, evaluate, and estimate mineral deposits through geological surveys.
- Analyze geological data to determine the quality, quantity, and distribution of mineral resources.
- Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and technical reports.
- Support drilling programs and supervise sample collection and logging.
Mining Operations Support
- Provide geological guidance to mining operations to ensure efficient extraction.
- Monitor ore quality and recommend appropriate mining methods.
- Collaborate with mining engineers to optimize pit designs and extraction plans.
- Ensure proper grade control and mineral resource management.
- Monitor daily mining progress and provide technical support to operational teams.
Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure geological activities comply with Ugandan mining regulations and environmental standards.
- Participate in environmental impact assessments and rehabilitation planning.
- Maintain accurate exploration and mining documentation for regulatory purposes.
- Support inspections and audits by relevant government authorities.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Comply with company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies.
- Identify geological hazards and recommend mitigation measures.
- Promote safe working practices during field and mining activities.
- Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with Mining, Quality, Production, and HSE departments.
- Liaise with government mining authorities where required.
- Train and guide junior geological staff and field assistants.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Earth Sciences, Mining Geology, or a related field.
- Membership or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional geological body is an added advantage.
- Additional certifications in mining, GIS, or geological software are desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in geological exploration, mining, quarrying, or cement/ceramic raw material operations.
- Experience working in limestone, clay, silica, feldspar, granite, or other industrial mineral mining is highly preferred.
- Experience in quarry operations or manufacturing industries is an added advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of geological mapping and mineral resource estimation.
- Knowledge of mining methods and grade control.
- Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, Surpac, Leapfrog, ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar geological software.
- Ability to interpret geological maps and drilling data.
- Good knowledge of laboratory sampling and testing procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
