We are seeking an experienced Energy Project Development Manager to support the development of renewable energy and power infrastructure projects in Uganda. Job descriptions & requirements
- Support the development of renewable energy projects, including solar PV, wind, battery storage, hybrid power, and related grid infrastructure.
- Coordinate with relevant government agencies, utilities, regulators, landowners, technical consultants, EPC partners, and local stakeholders.
- Assist in assessing project opportunities, including site suitability, land availability, grid connection feasibility, permitting pathway, and stakeholder support.
- Follow up on discussions related to power purchase agreements, tariff structure, project approvals, grid studies, and connection arrangements.
- Help prepare project development plans, timelines, risk registers, reports, and meeting materials.
- Organize and participate in site visits, technical meetings, government meetings, and partner discussions.
- Collect and verify local project information, including land documents, grid information, permits, environmental requirements, and community issues.
- Identify risks that may affect project bankability, execution, financing, or government approval.
- Maintain regular communication with management and provide clear progress updates, recommendations, and next-step proposals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, energy, renewable energy, project management, business, law, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Uganda’s power, renewable energy, infrastructure, utility, EPC, IPP, or energy consulting sector.
- Familiarity with Uganda’s energy institutions, regulatory environment, grid connection process, and project approval procedures.
- Experience with solar, wind, storage, transmission, distribution, or IPP projects is strongly preferred.
- Ability to communicate professionally with government agencies, utilities, technical consultants, local partners, and international investors.
- Strong English writing and reporting skills.
- Good understanding of project risks, including land, permits, grid connection, tariff, PPA, financing, community, and execution risks.
- Able to travel to project sites across Uganda when required.
- High integrity, strong ownership, and ability to work independently.
Preferred Experience
- Direct experience working with ERA, UETCL, MEMD, UEDCL, or other relevant power sector stakeholders.
- Experience supporting IPP projects, PPA discussions, grid studies, feasibility studies, ESIA, land acquisition, or government approvals.
- Experience working with international developers, EPC contractors, investors, or development finance institutions.
- Existing network in Uganda’s renewable energy and infrastructure sector.
