Job Purpose
The Fundraising Specialist will support resource mobilisation efforts for women’s rights and feminist programming across the greater Horn of Africa and neighbouring regions. The role will work closely with the Regional Programme Manager, Country Coordinators, and a Resource Mobilisation Associate in a fast-paced environment.


Key Roles and Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with the organisation’s strategic plan and feminist principles.
• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities from bilateral, multilateral, foundation, and private sector donors.
• Lead the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals in close collaboration with the organisation’s program and country teams.
• Work closely with the Finance team to develop and review accurate, compliant, and cost-effective budgets that align with donor requirements and the organisational priorities.
• Ensure consistency between program narratives and financial proposals, justifying key budget lines.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective donors, ensuring timely communication, reporting, and stewardship.
• Support the strengthening of internal systems for donor tracking, proposal development, and knowledge management.
• Collaborate with Communications to enhance the organisation’s visibility and donor engagement through storytelling, publications, and digital content.
• Provide capacity building and mentorship to the organisation’s staff on fundraising, proposal development, and donor engagement.


Qualifications and Experience
  • Prior exposure to women’s rights and feminist organisations is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the fundraising landscape in the greater Horn of Africa, with experience in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Uganda.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with institutional donors, embassies, and international funding partners.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in feminist or women’s rights organisations, or 7 years’ experience in fundraising within broader human rights or development organisations.
  • A master’s degree is desirable; however, candidates with a first degree and ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience will also be considered.

  • High level of flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced, evolving setting.
  • Proficiency in English is required; Arabic is a strong advantage due to the regional scope of work.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Number and quality of proposals developed annually in collaboration with program teams.
• Percentage of proposals successfully funded versus those submitted.
• Total value of funds secured annually against organisational fundraising goals.
• Growth rate in new or diversified funding streams (e.g., foundations, institutional donors, private sector).
• Frequency and quality of donor engagement and communication (meetings, updates, visits).
• Level of donor retention and renewal of multi-year partnerships.
• Timely and accurate development of proposal budgets in line with donor guidelines.
• Degree of alignment and consistency between financial and narrative proposals.
• Evidence of proactive identification of funding opportunities aligned with the organisation’s thematic and geographic priorities.
• Quality of input into organisational fundraising strategies and reports.
• Number of capacity-building sessions or mentoring activities provided to staff on proposal development and donor engagement.
• Improvement in internal proposal quality and compliance resulting from capacity efforts.
• Quality and impact of fundraising-related communication materials developed in collaboration with the communications team.
• Contribution to enhancing the organisation’s visibility and reputation among donors and partners.
• Consistent demonstration of feminist leadership, inclusivity, and respect for diversity in all interactions.
• Positive feedback from colleagues and partners regarding teamwork, collaboration, and integrity.


Location & Work Mode
  • Based in Uganda or working remotely.
  • Remote candidates will be expected to use personal work tools and provide their own internet/data access.


Reporting & Collaboration
  • Reports to the Regional Programme Manager with a dotted line to the Regional Director.
  • Works closely with Country Coordinators, the finance team, and a Resource Mobilisation Associate.


Working Conditions
  • Working days: Monday to Friday, approximately 8 hours per day (9:00 am – 5:00 pm).
  • Some level of flexibility in the work hours/schedule may be required depending on programme needs.
  • This is an existing position, not a newly created role.


Recruitment Process
  • Two interview stages: one oral and one written.
  • Interviews will be conducted virtually.


Compensation & Benefits
  • Net monthly salary range: USD 1,800 – 3,000, depending on experience.
  • Benefits include pension, social insurance, and health insurance (Uganda Social Insurance Fund applies for in-country staff).
