Job summary
The role involves active engagement with key stakeholders across government, public authorities, and the private sector, and, where appropriate, supporting the practical establishment of Suyana’s operational base in Uganda, including legal registration and setup. In addition, the Country Coordinator accompanies and supports local implementing partners,supports the coordination of project implementation and follow up, ensures compliance with Suyana policies and national regulations, and provides hands on financial oversight.

About Suyana Foundation
In Uganda, we currently support three projects implemented by local partners, promoting community empowerment through a holistic approach across health, livelihoods, and education. As part of our ambition to strengthen Suyana’s presence in East Africa, particularly in Rwanda and Uganda, we are currently assessing the establishment of a formal local presence in Uganda. Position Summary
Subject to organisational development, successful registration, programme growth, and demonstrated capacity in the role, the position may evolve into a Country Representative function over time.
Key responsibilities
- Representation and coordination: Together with the Regional Programmes Manager,represent Suyana in Uganda, with a strong focus on building and maintaining astrong and active network of relationships with development partners, government institutions,public authorities, and private sector actors.
- Programme development: Contribute to shaping Suyana’s Uganda programmes in close coordination with the headquarters team and the Regional Programme Manager Africa based in Kampala. Bring in contextual knowledge, professional experience, and local networks to support stakeholder consultations and local context analysis. Contribute to the development of a programme approach that combines collaboration with local partners with the gradual exploration of own implementation modalities, in line with national priorities and Suyana’s strategic pillars and vision. This programme framework may serve as a basis for the registration and future operational presence of Suyana in Uganda.
- Office establishment and management: the Country Coordinator will support the establishment of Suyana’s operational presence in Uganda. This includes legal registration, basic office setup, and the implementation of core administrative and financial procedure Once Suyana is legally registered, the role will also ensure timely and compliant reporting to the relevant Ugandan authorities in accordance with national requirements.
- Partner coordination and MEAL support: Accompany and support local implementing partners throughout project implementation through regular exchange and field follow up. Provide practical guidance on Project Cycle Management, reporting, compliance, financial management and MEAL, including the use of data collection tools such as Kobo. Ensure effective coordination between partners and Suyana, proactively address implementation challenges, and support timely and high-quality delivery. Review, consolidate, and quality check partners reports prior to submission to Suyana headquarters. Contribute to partner assessments and the development of new initiatives.
- Consultant management: Support the development of terms of reference and coordinate the identification, contracting, and follow up of service providers and consultants, ensuring quality and timely service delivery.
- Resource mobilisation and external engagement: Monitor the funding and partnership landscape in Uganda, identify relevant opportunities, and proactively inform headquarters. Contribute, as required, to the development of funding proposals in collaboration to support new and ongoing initiatives.
- A person with the potential to act as a reliable and loyal ambassador for Suyana, comfortable representing the organisation and building networks in its interest. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to act as an effective bridge between headquarters and stakeholders in Uganda, and to mediate between cultures and perspectives to foster mutual understanding and constructive collaboration.
- A resilient, and highly adaptable professional who is comfortable taking responsibility in an evolving and sometimes uncertain environment. Able to manage ambiguity, adjust tochanging priorities, and combine strong solution orientation, realism, and practical execution with strategic awareness and a long-term perspective.
- Minimum five years of experience managing development projects in Uganda, with increasing responsibility over time, including contributions to programme development and strategic planning alongside hands on implementation.
- Proven hands-on expertise in Project Cycle Management, with a strong track record of successful project implementation. Demonstrated experience working closely with communities, local partners, and public authorities, and familiarity with local and national coordination mechanisms in Uganda. Ability to set up and manage local operations, including establishing systems and procedures and the potential to recruiting and supervising teams at a later stage.
- Degree in international development, social sciences, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong alignment with Suyana’s values and mission, including a holistic, community centred approach to development rooted in empowerment, collaboration, accountability, and respect for local ownership.
- Proficiency in English. An additional local language from Uganda is required.
- Strong digital literacy, particularly in MS Office and KOBO.
- Applicants must hold a Ugandan passport. Foreign nationals may apply only if they are already legally resident in Uganda and authorised to work at the time of application. Suyana does not plan to initiate work or residence permit procedures for this role.
