Job Summary
To ensure the optimal functionality, safety, and reliability of all company vehicles, farm equipment, and machinery by conducting timely inspections, maintenance, and repairs. The General Mechanic will contribute to efficient farm operations by minimising downtime, enhancing equipment performance, and supporting preventive maintenance schedules in line with Asili’s operational standards.

Job Description/Requirements
- Inspect vehicle and/or machine engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose problems accurately and plan solutions.
- Keep equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles and farm implements.
- Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade 25
- Maintain assigned equipment and tools in good condition
- Conduct preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, lubricating parts, replacing fluids, tyre rotation and changes, wheel balancing, and replacing filters.
- Maintain machines in good functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical system malfunctions; replacing parts and components; and repairing body damage.
- Verify machine serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
- Service vehicles and equipment following a set schedule
- Maintain records/logs by recording service and repairs.
- Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise drivers/operators on good vehicle use10
- Keep mechanical tools and equipment allocated under safe custody.
- Adhere to the company’s SOP on quality and safety all the time.10
- Diploma or Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field from a recognised institution.
- Additional certification in welding, hydraulics, or electronics is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of vehicles, farm equipment, and machinery.
- Experience in a large-scale agricultural, logistics, or industrial setting is preferred.
- Good understanding of diesel and petrol engine systems, hydraulics, and agricultural machinery.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and mechanical diagnostics.
- Familiarity with maintenance logs, inventory of tools, and basic record-keeping.

- The role is primarily field-based, with exposure to dust, grease, oil, noise, and outdoor conditions.
- May require lifting heavy parts and working in awkward positions.
- Work hours may extend beyond the regular day during peak seasons or emergency repairs.
- Use of PPE (safety boots, gloves, helmets, eye protection) is mandatory.
- Must be able to respond quickly to breakdowns in remote field locations.
