Job Summary
The Legal & Compliance Officer will support the Legal & Compliance Manager in ensuring the Group's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The role involves providing legal support, reviewing contracts, monitoring regulatory compliance, managing litigation and debt recovery matters, maintaining legal records, and supporting risk management initiatives across the Group's companies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide legal support and guidance to all companies within the Group.
• Draft, review and manage contracts, agreements, policies and other legal documentation.
• Monitor compliance with the Tier 4 Microfinance Institutions and Money Lenders Act, SIMPA, the Companies Act, Data Protection and Privacy Act, and other applicable laws and regulations.
• Assist in managing litigation, debt recovery, enforcement proceedings and liaison with external advocates.
• Conduct legal research and provide legal opinions on emerging legal and regulatory issues.
• Maintain statutory records, legal registers and compliance documentation.
• Support regulatory filings, licensing and reporting requirements with relevant authorities.
• Identify legal and compliance risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
• Conduct compliance monitoring and assist in implementing internal controls.
• Support staff training and awareness on legal, regulatory and compliance obligations.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Legal & Compliance Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB).
• Diploma in Legal Practice (Bar Course) is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 1 year's experience in legal, compliance, or recovery roles within a Tier 4 Microfinance Institution, SACCO, lending institution, law firm, or corporate environment.
• Strong working knowledge of recovery laws, debt enforcement procedures, and corporate legal practice.
• Excellent legal drafting, analytical and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

A highly ethical, detail-oriented, proactive, and dependable professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise sound legal judgment under minimal supervision.
