About Terya
Terya Building and Construction Limited is a multidisciplinary engineering and infrastructure company delivering high-performance engineering solutions across Uganda. Our work spans building construction and civil engineering, electrical and industrial engineering, renewable energy, solar PV and energy storage systems, generator installation and maintenance, industrial automation, telecommunications infrastructure, and certified testing and calibration services.

As the official distributor of AKSA Power Generation products in Uganda, we supply and support reliable power systems for residential, commercial, industrial and institutional clients. Our technical services teams work daily with control systems, instrumentation and precision measurement, which places electronics competence at the centre of what we do.

We combine engineering excellence with technical precision, working to recognised standards and documented quality procedures on every assignment. From installation and commissioning through to calibration and long-term maintenance, we deliver infrastructure and systems our clients can depend on.

Position Summary
The Electronics Technician is where engineering design meets working hardware. In this role you will install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain the electronic systems that keep Terya's projects running - control panels and instrumentation, generator control and transfer systems, solar PV and energy storage electronics, telecommunications DC power, and the precision instruments used in our calibration and testing services.

The position exists because reliable infrastructure depends on accurate measurement and dependable control. When a control loop drifts, a transfer switch hesitates or an inverter fault, the consequences reach the client directly. Your diagnostic discipline, your calibration records and the quality of your workmanship protect both the client's operation and Terya's reputation.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Installation and Commissioning
• Install electronic control panels, instrumentation loops and low-voltage systems at project sites and client premises.
• Terminate, dress and label cables, glands and connectors in accordance with approved drawings and industry standards.
• Commission control and monitoring equipment, verifying loop integrity, signal accuracy and interlock functionality before handover.
• Support the installation and commissioning of solar PV systems, inverters, charge controllers and energy storage systems (ESS).
• Assist with factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) of electronic assemblies and control equipment.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting
• Diagnose faults on printed circuit boards (PCBs) to component level using oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators and thermal imaging.
• Troubleshoot sensors, transmitters, relays, contactors, drives and industrial control circuits, isolating root causes rather than symptoms.
• Execute planned preventive maintenance on generator control systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS) and automatic voltage regulators (AVR).
• Repair, refurbish and bench-test electronic modules to return equipment to service and reduce replacement cost.
• Respond to breakdown call-outs and restore critical systems to operation within agreed response times.
• Maintain DC power systems, rectifiers and earthing arrangements supporting telecommunications infrastructure.

Documentation and Continuous Improvement
• Read, interpret and work from schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts and equipment manuals.
• Produce clear service reports, test sheets and as-built mark-ups after every intervention.
• Contribute technical evidence to root cause analysis of recurring failures and propose practical corrective actions.
• Maintain spares, consumables and tool inventories, flagging reorder requirements in good time.
• Observe all health, safety and environmental requirements, including safe isolation and lock-out / tag- out procedures.
• Support and mentor apprentices and trainee technicians, sharing practical knowledge on the job.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Education
• Diploma in Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, Telecommunications Engineering or a closely related field from a recognised institution.
• Diploma holders are strongly encouraged to apply and are given priority consideration for this role.

Preferred Education
• Higher Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.

Professional Certifications (Advantageous)
• Certificate in Instrumentation and Calibration or Metrology.
• Solar PV installation certification (T1/T2 or equivalent).
• PLC and industrial controls fundamentals training.
• Occupational Health and Safety induction, working at height, or First Aid certification.
• Registration with, or eligibility to register with, the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE).
• A valid driving permit is an added advantage for field-based assignments.

Technical Competencies
Electronics and Instrumentation
• PCB diagnostics and component-level repair
• Industrial electronics and power electronics fundamentals
• Sensors, transducers and transmitters
• Instrument calibration and measurement traceability
• 4–20 mA loop testing and signal conditioning
• Soldering and rework (through-hole; SMD an advantage)

Electrical and Power Systems
• Electrical troubleshooting and fault isolation
• Cable termination, dressing and labelling
• Low-voltage distribution and protection devices
• Generator control systems, ATS and AVR
• Solar PV, inverters, charge controllers and energy storage systems

• Preventive and corrective maintenance planning
• Industrial controls, relay logic and basic PLC / HMI awareness
• Technical report writing and maintenance record keeping
• Computer literacy (MS Office, maintenance logs, digital test equipment)

Soft Skills and Professional Competencies
• Attention to detail and precision
• Structured problem-solving and fault-finding logic
• Integrity and personal accountability
• Clear written and verbal communication
• Teamwork and cross-discipline collaboration
• Time management and reliability under deadline
• Safety consciousness and situational awareness
• Adaptability across sites and system types
• Willingness to learn and accept technical coaching
• Client service orientation and professional conduct
• Patience and methodical work habits
• Initiative and ownership of assigned tasks

Experience

• Industrial training, internship or workshop attachment experience will be recognised and taken into account.
• Fresh graduates with exceptional technical competence are encouraged to apply.
• Practical evidence of ability - a portfolio of repairs, projects or fabricated work - strengthens an application considerably.
