- Lead the company's debt recovery process for overdue customer accounts.
- Issue demand notices and negotiate payment arrangements with debtors.
- Advise management on legal action against defaulting customers where necessary.
- Represent the company in debt recovery proceedings before courts or other legal forums.
- Work closely with the Finance and Sales departments to monitor overdue accounts and recommend recovery strategies.
- Develop and improve debt collection policies and procedures.
- Ensure all credit agreements are legally enforceable.
- Provide legal advice to management on company operations and strategic decisions.
- Interpret laws and regulations affecting the poultry feeds manufacturing and distribution business.
- Advise management on legal risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts with suppliers, distributors, transporters, customers and service providers.
- Ensure contracts adequately protect the company's interests.
- Maintain an organized register of all legal agreements.
- Represent the company or coordinate with external advocates in legal proceedings.
- Handle employment disputes, commercial disputes and customer claims.
- Seek cost-effective dispute resolution through negotiation, mediation or arbitration where appropriate.
- Ensure the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations and licensing requirements.
- Monitor changes in legislation that may affect company operations.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities on legal matters.
- Percentage of outstanding debts successfully recovered.
- Average debt recovery period.
- Reduction in bad debts and write-offs.
- Number of legal disputes successfully resolved.
- Compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Reduction in legal costs through effective negotiation and dispute management.
- Timely submission of legal reports to management.
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
- Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent professional qualification.
- Valid practising certificate.
- Membership in the relevant Law Society.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in corporate legal practice, debt recovery or commercial law.
- Experience in manufacturing, agribusiness or FMCG will be an added advantage.
