Department: Health
Reports To: Clinical Officer

Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Technical Responsibilities
• Perform diagnostic ultrasound scans, including obstetric, gynecological, abdominal, and general soft-tissue
scans, as requested by the Clinical Officer or referring clinician.
• Position patients correctly and operate ultrasound equipment safely and skillfully to obtain clear,
diagnostic-quality images.
• Accurately interpret and document sonographic findings, preparing clear reports for the referring clinician.
• Identify and promptly flag urgent or abnormal findings (e.g., ectopic pregnancy, fetal distress, suspected
malignancy) to the Clinical Officer for immediate action.
• Conduct antenatal ultrasound scans to assess gestational age, fetal growth, position, and wellbeing in
coordination with the maternal health team.
• Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is clean, functional, and safely stored, and reporting
any technical faults promptly.
• Ensure correct infection prevention and control practices, including cleaning of probes and equipment
between patients.
• Refer patients requiring specialized imaging or further investigation to appropriate higher-level facilities.
• Provide holistic care that integrates physical, emotional, and spiritual support, including prayer with patients
where appropriate and welcomed — particularly in sensitive situations such as pregnancy loss or difficult
diagnoses.

Administrative Responsibilities
• Maintain accurate, complete, and secure records of all scans performed, including patient details, indications,
and findings.
• Complete and submit daily, weekly, and monthly imaging statistics and reports to the Clinic Manager or
relevant health authorities as required.
• Monitor and manage stock levels of ultrasound gel, printing paper, and other imaging consumables,
participating in ordering and inventory checks.

• Support the scheduling and coordination of ultrasound appointments, prioritizing urgent or high-risk referrals
appropriately.
• Ensure compliance with clinic policies, national health regulations, licensing requirements, and data protection
standards.
• Assist in the preparation for and follow-up on inspections, audits, and visits by health authorities or partners.

Confidentiality & Data Protection
• Treat every scan result, image, and clinical finding as strictly confidential, sharing information only with the
patient, authorized clinical staff, or as required by law.
• Communicate sensitive or difficult findings — such as pregnancy complications, fetal abnormalities, pregnancy
loss, or suspected malignancy — with utmost discretion, compassion, and in coordination with the Clinical
Officer, never disclosing results to third parties without patient consent.
• Never discuss a patient's scan findings, pregnancy status, or health condition with family members, friends, or
community members without explicit patient authorization, recognizing the potential for serious social, marital,
or safety consequences from unauthorized disclosure.
• Ensure ultrasound images, reports, and patient data are stored securely, with access restricted to authorized
personnel only, whether in physical files or electronic systems.
• Conduct scans and deliver findings in a private setting that protects the patient's dignity and confidentiality at
all times.
• Immediately report any accidental disclosure, breach of confidentiality, or loss of patient data to the Clinic
Manager.
• Uphold patient confidentiality even outside of working hours and after the end of employment, in line with
professional ethics and the clinic's data protection policy.

• Maintain a calm, reassuring, and professional demeanor, especially when patients are anxious, in pain, or
awaiting difficult news.

receiving difficult findings, and connecting them promptly with the Clinical Officer for follow-up counseling and
support.
• Manage scheduling and waiting times fairly and efficiently, minimizing delays and patient frustration.
• Handle patient concerns, complaints, or feedback promptly, empathetically, and professionally, escalating
where necessary.
