Job Summary:
The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff through the provision of basic medical care, first aid, health monitoring, and health education. The role ensures a safe, healthy school environment that supports learning, boarding life, and holistic student development, while upholding high professional standards, confidentiality, ethical practice, and the school’s Christian values and safeguarding policies.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Student Health Care & Clinical Services
  • Provide basic nursing care, first aid, and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Assess and monitor students' health conditions and administer prescribed medication in line with medical guidance and parental consent.
  • Maintain individual student medical records, including medical histories, treatment logs, and referrals, ensuring they are stored securely to protect privacy.
  • Monitor students with chronic conditions and special health needs.
  • Refer serious or complex medical cases to hospitals or health facilities and coordinate follow-up care.

2. Health Monitoring, Prevention & Health Education
  • Conduct routine health checks and monitor the general well-being of students and staff.
  • Promote preventive health practices including hygiene, nutrition, sanitation, and disease prevention.
  • Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings.
  • Support immunization follow-ups and public health campaigns as required.
  • Monitor immunizations, manage diseases, and assess the safety of the school environment to prevent injury and ensure community safety.

3. Emergency Response & First Aid
  • Provide immediate response to medical emergencies on campus.
  • Coordinate emergency referrals and communication with parents, administration, and health facilities.
  • Maintain emergency preparedness including first aid kits, isolation protocols, and referral procedures.
  • Support school safety drills related to health emergencies.


4. Boarding Health & Welfare Support
  • Support health care needs of boarding students, including night or on-call health support where required.
  • Monitor hygiene and health conditions in dormitories, kitchens, and sanitation facilities.
  • Work closely with boarding staff to address health-related concerns.

5. Medical Supplies, Inventory & Administration
  • Manage the school sickbay/clinic and ensure cleanliness, order, and proper functioning.
  • Maintain an inventory of medical supplies, medicines, and equipment, and procure drugs of the right quality and quantity.
  • Recommend procurement of medical supplies and ensure proper storage and usage.
  • Prepare health reports and documentation for school administration when required.

6. Safeguarding, Child Protection & Professional Conduct
  • Uphold the school’s Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy at all times.
  • Adhere strictly to the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) Policy.
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
  • Report any safeguarding, abuse, or health-related concerns promptly through designated channels.

7. Spiritual Care & Values Integration
  • Demonstrate compassion, integrity, and service in line with the school’s Christian ethos.
  • Provide care that respects the dignity, values, and beliefs of students and staff.
  • Participate in school devotions and activities as appropriate.

8. Additional Duties
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor/assignee from time to time, provided such assignments do not significantly distort the core operational responsibilities outlined herein.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential Requirements:
  • Certificate or Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, or Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
  • Valid practicing license from the relevant professional council.
  • At least 2–3 years experience in nursing or clinical care, preferably in a school or community health setting.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid, infection prevention, and emergency response.
  • No criminal record or history of child abuse or neglect.
  • Willingness and ability to work within a school and boarding environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a boarding school or youth-centered environment.
  • Training in first aid, child health, or adolescent health.
  • Basic ICT skills for record-keeping and reporting.
  • Experience in health education or counseling support.
