Key Responsibilities

Instructional Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver lesson plans and schemes of work for Literacy 1 and Literacy 2, aligned with the national thematic curriculum and school requirements.

• Teach engaging, inclusive, and Christ-centered lessons that build learners' phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, decoding, and early reading fluency in both local language (Literacy 1) and English (Literacy 2).

• Develop learners' oral language, vocabulary, listening, and speaking skills as a foundation for literacy acquisition.

• Guide learners through early writing skills, including handwriting, spelling, and simple sentence construction.

• Use structured, age-appropriate methods (e.g., phonics, look-and-say, guided reading) suited to lower primary learners.

• Provide remedial support to learners struggling with foundational literacy, following the school timetable.

• Assess and evaluate learner progress in Literacy 1 and 2 through a range of formative and summative tools, including oral reading assessments.

• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities, recognizing varied paces of literacy acquisition among young learners.

• Prepare and use appropriate teaching aids, readers, charts, and instructional materials to enhance literacy learning.

Classroom & Student Management

• Maintain a positive, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment suited to lower primary learners. • Provide guidance and nurturing support appropriate to the developmental needs of young children. • Maintain discipline while promoting mutual respect and spiritual growth.

• Uphold Christian values and integrate Biblical principles into classroom discussions and stories. • Supervise learners closely during class time, break time, and other school activities to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Administrative & Collaborative Duties

• Maintain accurate class records, including attendance, inventory, literacy assessments, and progress reports.

• Participate in internal examinations: setting, administering, and marking Literacy 1 and 2 assessments. • Engage with parents and guardians through regular communications and meetings, including guidance on supporting literacy at home.

• Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership to enhance school-wide literacy programs and reading culture.

• Participate in school initiatives, including devotions, fellowships, and outreach programs.

Professional Development

• Reflect on teaching practices and pursue continuous personal and professional growth. • Attend staff development sessions and contribute ideas to improve school operations. • Stay current with educational research and teaching methodologies in early-grade literacy instruction.

Other Duties

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Teacher or administration as needs arise. What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Grade III Certificate or Diploma in Primary Education from a recognized institution. • Registration: Valid registration/license with the Ministry of Education and Sports, where applicable. • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in primary education, with proven ability and hands-on experience teaching P1, P2, and/or P3 classes.

• Subject Proficiency: Solid understanding of the thematic curriculum, early-grade literacy methodologies, and Literacy 1 and 2 teaching strategies.

• Fluency in the relevant local language used for Literacy 1 instruction, in addition to English.
