Position Summary

As a Nursery Teacher at AsOne Ministries, your role goes beyond basic childcare. You will be responsible for nurturing the early growth of young children — spiritually, socially, physically, and academically — in line with Uganda's Early Childhood Development (ECD) curriculum. You are expected to uphold the professional code of conduct for educators and provide a safe, loving, and stimulating environment where children can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Responsibilities (Aligned to Uganda's ECD Curriculum)

• Plan and deliver age-appropriate, play-based lessons covering all key ECD curriculum areas: Language, Literacy and Communication; Mathematics/Number Work; Environmental and Social Studies; Creative and Aesthetic Activities; Religious and Moral Education; and Health, Safety, and Physical (Psychomotor) Development.

• Develop foundational language and pre-literacy skills through storytelling, rhymes, songs, picture reading, and guided conversation.

• Introduce early numeracy concepts including counting, number recognition, sorting, matching, shapes, sizes, and simple patterns through hands-on activities and play.

• Guide children in exploring their environment and community, building awareness of people, places, seasons, and simple social and safety concepts.

• Facilitate creative and aesthetic activities such as drawing, colouring, modelling, singing, music, and dance to nurture imagination and self-expression.

• Integrate Christian values, Bible stories, and age-appropriate spiritual and moral teaching into daily routines and activities.

• Support the development of fine and gross motor skills through structured play, movement, games, and outdoor activities.

• Use a variety of teaching aids, real objects, and locally available materials to make lessons engaging, inclusive, and hands-on.

• Observe, assess, and record each child's developmental progress across all domains - cognitive, language, social-emotional, and physical — using age-appropriate assessment tools.

• Plan and organize thematic and seasonal activities (e.g., market day, nature walks, festivals) that bring the curriculum to life.

Child & Classroom Management

• Maintain a warm, safe, clean, and stimulating classroom environment suited to the needs of young children.

• Establish consistent, gentle routines and positive behaviour management approaches appropriate for nursery-age children.

• Supervise children closely at all times, including during meals, naptime, play, and transitions, to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

• Identify and respond to signs of distress, developmental delay, or health concerns, and promptly inform parents/guardians and the Director of Studies.

• Promote inclusion, kindness, and respect among children of different backgrounds and abilities.

Administrative & Collaborative Duties

• Maintain accurate records of attendance, developmental milestones, health observations, and individual learner progress.

• Prepare simple, parent-friendly progress reports each term summarizing each child's growth and areas for support.

• Engage regularly with parents and guardians to share updates on their child's development and encourage involvement in learning at home.

• Collaborate with fellow teachers, the Director of Studies, and school leadership to plan events, activities, and school-wide programs.

• Participate in school initiatives, including devotions, fellowships, and community outreach programs.

Professional Development

• Reflect on teaching practices and pursue continuous personal and professional growth in early childhood development.

• Attend staff development sessions, ECD-focused training, and contribute ideas to improve school operations.

• Stay current with best practices, research, and methodologies in early childhood education.

Other Duties

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Teacher or administration as needs arise. What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Certificate or Diploma in Early Childhood Development (ECD) Education, or a related field, from a recognized institution.

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a nursery or early childhood setting.

• Subject Proficiency: Solid understanding of Uganda's ECD curriculum framework, child development milestones, and age-appropriate, play-based teaching strategies.

Technical Competencies

• Proficient in planning and delivering play-based, child-centered lessons and activities. • Strong classroom management skills suited to young children, with patience and a nurturing disposition. • Ability to observe, assess, and document early childhood developmental progress. • Skilled in creating engaging learning materials using simple and locally available resources.

• Capable of creating a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for young children's academic, physical, and spiritual growth.
