Job Description/Requirements

This program provides structured on-the-job training for a recent IT/Computer Science graduate, building practical skills across IT support, systems administration, networking, software/applications, cybersecurity, and data/technology projects. The trainee supports day-to-day IT operations while learning best practices and contributing to digital improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will be transitioned to a fixed-term contract with Kijani Forestry. 

1) IT Support & Service Desk

  • Provide first-line technical support to staff (hardware, software, accounts, connectivity).

  • Log, track, and resolve tickets within agreed service timelines.

  • Set up new user accounts, email, access rights, and devices.

  • Troubleshoot printers/scanners, desktop apps, office tools, and mobile devices.

  • Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff and follow through to closure.

2) Systems & Infrastructure Support

  • Assist in maintaining servers, laptops, desktops, and network devices.

  • Support routine system checks: backups, updates, patching, antivirus.

  • Help monitor uptime/performance of systems and connectivity.

  • Support inventory management of IT assets and licenses.

3) Networking

  • Support basic LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi troubleshooting.

  • Assist with network configuration tasks under supervision (routers, switches, access points).

  • Help document network layouts and configurations.

4) Applications & Software

  • Assist in installing, updating, and configuring business applications.

  • Provide user guidance on internal systems (ERP, HR, finance, GIS, field apps, etc.).

  • Support testing and rollout of new tools or system enhancements.

5) Cybersecurity & Data Protection

  • Follow and promote security policies (password hygiene, access controls, safe data handling).

  • Assist with user awareness sessions and phishing simulations if applicable.

  • Support incident logging and basic investigations under guidance.

6) Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in IT/digital projects (automation, cloud migration, data collection tools, dashboards).

  • Help with requirements gathering, documentation, user training, and post-deployment support.

  • Suggest simple process improvements based on user pain points.

7) Documentation

  • Create/update user guides, FAQs, how-to notes, and standard operating procedures.

  • Maintain clean records of configurations, asset registers, and resolved issues.

Learning & Development Outcomes (What the trainee should gain)

By the end of the program, the trainee should be able to:

  • Independently handle common support issues.

  • Understand core infrastructure and network operations.

  • Apply basic cybersecurity practices.

  • Contribute to IT projects confidently.

  • Communicate technical info clearly to non-technical users.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Ticket resolution time and quality.

  • User satisfaction/feedback.

  • Accuracy of documentation and asset updates.

  • Participation and delivery on assigned projects.

  • Adherence to IT/security policies.

  • Demonstrated growth against training plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

  • Graduated within the last 1–2 years (or comparable experience).

  • Basic understanding of:

    • Windows/Linux environments

    • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, Wi-Fi)

    • Common productivity tools (Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace)

    • Hardware troubleshooting

  • Any internship/project experience is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills

  • Troubleshooting mindset and basic diagnostic skills.

  • Familiarity with:

    • Active Directory / user management (nice to have)

    • Cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure / AWS / Google Cloud) (nice to have)

    • ITIL/service desk processes (nice to have)

    • Scripting basics (PowerShell, Python, Bash) (advantage)

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and customer service attitude.

  • Willingness to learn fast and take feedback.

  • Good teamwork and reliability.

  • Time management and ability to work under pressure.

  • High integrity and respect for confidentiality.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based with occasional travel to sites/branches.

  • May require flexible hours during system maintenance or urgent outages.

  • Mentored and supervised with a structured training plan.
