The role ensures regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, accident prevention, and asset protection while promoting a culture of safety and operational excellence.

Job Title: Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer

Reports To: Operations Director / Plant Manager / General Manager
Location: Namataba Mukono


Job Summary

The EHSS Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, safety, and security policies and procedures to ensure full legal compliance and a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

🔹 Environmental Management

  • Ensure compliance with local environmental laws and regulations
  • Monitor waste management, emissions, and environmental impact
  • Implement sustainability and environmental improvement programs
  • Maintain environmental permits and reporting documentation

🔹 Health & Safety

  • Develop and implement HSE policies and procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification
  • Lead accident/incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Ensure proper use of PPE
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits
  • Organize fire drills and emergency response planning
  • Deliver HSE training and toolbox talks

🔹 Security Management

  • Develop and implement site security procedures
  • Supervise security personnel and access control systems
  • Conduct security risk assessments
  • Investigate security incidents
  • Ensure asset protection and emergency preparedness

🔹 Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA or relevant regulatory standards
  • Maintain safety records and compliance documentation
  • Prepare monthly HSE reports
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and auditors

🔹 Culture & Leadership

  • Promote a safety-first culture
  • Advise management on risk mitigation strategies
  • Participate in management meetings regarding compliance and risk

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field

Certifications (Highly Preferred):

  • NEBOSH
  • IOSH
  • OSHA certification
  • First Aid & Fire Safety Certification
  • ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 knowledge
