Annual duration: 9 or 12 month position
Expected hours per week: Full-time, including some nights and weekend work

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Summary Description: The counselor is a full-time, 9- or 12-months position responsible for assisting students in defining and accomplishing their God given personal and academic goals. There may be times when expected overtime might occur with having to work afterhours with a student in crisis; consultation with faculty and staff; along with assisting in educational and prevention programs.
Essential Functions
- As an intentionally Christian academic community hiring Christian educators, all employees will be expected to advance the mission, vision, and identity of Carson-Newman University as defined in university policy and expressed in our strategic plan and are expected to work as cooperative and collegial members of the University.

- As Christian educators, all employees of the University should regularly attend and actively participate in a local church.
- Provide individual, couple and group counseling to students, mental health assessments and treatment planning, crisis intervention and management, and outreach efforts.
- Provide services to faculty and staff to address developmental needs and concerns of students in training type setting.
- Provide educational training and prevention programs that focus on the developmental needs and emotional wellbeing of students to promote personal adjustment and growth.
- Coordinate with other campus offices to provide student support; participate on committees and task force as needed.
- Participate in admissions and orientation activities as needed.
- Maintain appropriate, accurate, and complete information in student records and assist counseling services staff as needed.
- Assist with and plan outreach events as needed across campus.

Education: The minimum qualification for Counseling Services professional personnel
should be a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant
discipline such as counseling psychology, clinical psychology, mental health counseling,
clinical social work, and counseling services.
Experience: Counseling Services professional personnel should have completed a supervised practicum/internship at the graduate level, preferably in the counseling of students within a higher education setting.
Required Skills: Counseling Services professional personnel serving in a clinical role should hold or be eligible for state licensure in their chosen discipline. The Counseling Services professional personnel should have the ability to interact effectively with administrators, faculty and staff members, students, colleagues, and community members. Must work well with an Electronic Medical Record System. Professional must be comfortable with public speaking and presentations as well as helping with outreach events. The Counseling Services professional personnel must perform their duties within the limits of their training, expertise and competence. When these limits are exceeded, individuals in need of further assistance must be referred to persons possessing appropriate qualifications. Counseling Services professional personnel will maintain in good standing with their state licensing boards and complete their regular professional development requirements.
