Job Title: Bartender
Department: Food & Beverage
Reports to: Bar Supervisor / Manager
Location: Lawns Restaurant, Kampala
What you’ll do
Core Bar Operations
- Prepare and serve alcoholic + non-alcoholic beverages to a high standard: cocktails, classics, mocktails, beers, wines, spirits
- Follow Lawns’ signature recipes and maintain consistency on pours, garnishes, and presentation
- Manage bar stock: daily inventory, par levels, waste/spillage tracking, and restock requests
Guest Experience
- Welcome guests warmly, take orders accurately, and upsell specials in a friendly, no-pressure way
- Remember regulars’ preferences and create a lively, safe atmosphere on the lawns
- Handle complaints gracefully and escalate to management when needed
Standards & Safety
- Maintain bar cleanliness, glassware, equipment, and work area per health & hygiene standards
- Adhere to responsible alcohol service: no service to minors or intoxicated guests
- Work with the kitchen and floor team for smooth service during events, weekends, and peak hours
What we’re looking for
Must-have
- 3+ years bartending experience in a restaurant, lounge, or hotel bar in Kampala preferred
- Knowledge of classic + contemporary cocktails, mixology techniques, and beverage pairing basics
- Strong customer service skills + great energy for lawn setting
Nice-to-have
- Flair bartending, latte art, or craft cocktail experience
- Training in alcohol safety, WSET, or food hygiene
- English fluency. Additional languages are a plus
Personal traits
Reliable, on time, team player, calm under pressure, and proud of how you present yourself. Lawns is an outdoor/garden vibe, so you’ll be comfortable working evenings, weekends, and events.
Working conditions
- Rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
