Job Summary:
Our Client, one of the fastest growing Ugandan agribusiness and processing companies is looking for a self-driven and passionate individual to join the team as a Senior Accountant to supervise general accounting operations and financial control transactions. The incumbent will oversee accounting operations, ensure accuracy in financial reporting, and support compliance. He/She will supervise junior accounting staff, manage AP/AR, reconciliations, tax compliance, financial reporting, and process improvement.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Manage Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee end-to-end AP/AR cycles, ensure accurate and timely processing, and serve as the primary contact for related inquiries.
- Perform Financial Reconciliations: Prepare and review monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Support Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, and contribute to budget/forecast processes.
- Ensure Month-End & Year-End Closure: Actively participate in closing procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial period completion.
- Uphold Compliance & Support Audits: Support tax compliance, corporate tax preparations, and assist with internal and external audit processes.
- Drive Process Improvements: Recommend and help implement enhancements to accounting systems, procedures, and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Supervise & Develop Team: Mentor and supervise junior finance staff (accountants, clerks, cashiers), delegating tasks and supporting their professional growth.
- Analyze Financial Performance: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.
- Oversee Office Administration: Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the office, managing administrative functions, procurement, and facilities/logistics.
- Document Policies & Procedures: Maintain thorough documentation of accounting policies, business processes, and internal controls in line with standards.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field. A professional qualification such as CMA or CPA is a bonus.
- 3+ years' experience of working as an Accountant preferably with a supervisory role.
- Profound experience with typical accounting procedures
- Deep experience with general ledger functions and the month end/year end close process
- Good knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles (GAAP)
- Good practical experience with accounting software packages such as Tally and QuickBooks. • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with accuracy and attention to detail
