Key Responsibilities / Duties
- Receive supplier invoices, process them, and enter them accurately into the accounting system (QuickBooks or equivalent).
- Prepare and issue customer invoices and proforma invoices for both local sales and export transactions.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and adjustments to ensure proper matching between bank movements and internal records.
- Handle all statutory payments and remittances, including NSSF, URA taxes, withholding tax, and employee-related taxes.
- Manage payroll processing and salary payments (with support from payroll assistant).
- Work closely with the external auditor to facilitate smooth audits and ensure compliance.
- Maintain full responsibility for the company’s books of accounts, including coordination for double accounting / group reporting with the head office.
- Oversee treasury functions, monitor cash flows, and reconcile payments with bank statements.
- Provide general administrative and clerical support on all accounting-related documents.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Qualification: Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – fully qualified or at an advanced stage of completion (preferred full CPA from ICPAU).
- Academic Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized university (will be an added advantage).
- Experience: At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience in a similar accounting role, preferably in a busy commercial or trading environment.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting software (QuickBooks or similar).
- Solid understanding of Ugandan tax laws, statutory deductions (NSSF, URA, withholding tax), and compliance requirements.
- Experience in export/import documentation and foreign-related reporting will be an advantage.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently while taking full ownership of the company’s accounting records.
