Role Grants Management Lead

About the Opportunity:
The Agrifood System Transformation for Youth Employment (ASTYE) program in Uganda is a transformative initiative designed to address systemic challenges hindering agricultural development and youth employment, particularly for young women. Funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in partnership with DSG, AGRA, and GOAL, ASTYE aims to create dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young people while strengthening Uganda's agrifood ecosystem.
DSG is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Grants Management Lead to oversee the effective and compliant administration of grant funds across DSG's portfolio of projects to ensure the successful implementation of the ASTYE Uganda program. This role is essential for ensuring robust grant management practices across the organization, contributing to DSG’s overall financial health and supporting the achievement of program objectives. The Grants Management Lead will contribute significantly to the ASTYE initiative by ensuring efficient and transparent grant processes within the program, supporting DSG's efforts to drive agricultural transformation and create work opportunities for young people in Uganda.
In This Role, You Will Make An Impact By:
Pre-Award Grant Management
• Manage the grant application process across DSG's program portfolio, including developing and disseminating calls for proposals, reviewing applications for completeness and eligibility, and coordinating with program staff on technical reviews.
• Conduct due diligence on potential grantees across all programs, including capacity assessments and financial reviews, to identify and mitigate risks.
• Prepare grant agreements, ensuring compliance with DSG policies, donor requirements, legal stipulations, and program-specific objectives.
• Facilitate grant awarding processes, including obtaining necessary approvals and signatures.
• Tailor the grant solicitation process to attract organizations aligned with the program's focus on youth employment, women's empowerment, and agricultural development in Uganda.
• Conduct due diligence on potential grantees to assess their understanding of and commitment to the program's theory of change, gender and youth inclusion strategies, and proposed approach to achieving impact within the Ugandan context
Post-Award Grant Management
• Monitor grant performance across DSG’s portfolio against agreed-upon objectives and deliverables, reviewing grantee reports, conducting site visits, and providing technical assistance as needed.
• Oversee grant disbursements, track expenditures, review financial reports, and ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines across all projects.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, donor requirements, and DSG policies.
• Prepare regular reports on grant activities, portfolio performance, and compliance for senior management and funders.
• Manage the grant closeout process, including final reporting, asset disposition, and fund reconciliation.
• Provide ongoing support and guidance to grantees on grant management practices, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements specific to the initiative and the Mastercard Foundation’s broader guidelines.
• Monitor grant expenditures closely, ensuring alignment with the program's budget and flagging any potential financial risks or discrepancies to the program team.
Grant Management Systems and Capacity Building
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of DSG's grant management policies and procedures, ensuring the Grant Management Manual remains relevant and reflects best practices.
• Develop and deliver training programs for DSG staff and partners on grant management policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Oversee the maintenance and improvement of DSG's grant management systems, ensuring data integrity, efficient workflows, and effective support for grant management activities across all programs.
• Incorporate lessons learned and best practices from ASTYE Uganda grant management into DSG's broader grantmaking policies and procedures, contributing to organizational learning and improvement.
• Provide targeted training and capacity building support to ASTYE Uganda partners on DSG's grant management systems and requirements, ensuring seamless integration and efficient grant administration within the program.
To Succeed In This Role, You Bring:
Education & Professional Experience
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in grant management, with demonstrated experience in overseeing the full grant lifecycle within complex development programs.
• Proven experience working with international funders and grantees.
• Experience working in the agrifood sector or international development is a plus.
Leadership & Technical Competencies
• Strong understanding of grant management principles, best practices, and regulatory requirements,
particularly in the African context.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software.
