Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic & Business Development
- Develop and execute a country‑specific business plan aligned with regional and global objectives.
- Identify new business opportunities in freight forwarding (air, sea, and road), customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution.
- Drive market share growth through client acquisition, retention, and strategic partnerships.
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and performance targets.
2. Operational Management
- Oversee day‑to‑day logistics operations, including import/export, customs brokerage, cargo consolidation, and last‑mile delivery.
- Ensure all services meet or exceed international quality, safety, and service standards.
- Manage fleet operations, including vehicle scheduling, maintenance, and route optimisation.
- Implement and monitor operational KPIs to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
3. Financial & Commercial Control
- Take full ownership of the Uganda P&L, ensuring profitability and cost discipline.
- Manage cash flow, credit control, and debtor collections.
- Negotiate competitive rates and service contracts with airlines, shipping lines, trucking companies, and other vendors.
- Provide timely financial and operational reports to headquarters.
4. Team Leadership & People Development
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a cross‑functional team (operations, sales, customer service, finance, and administration).
- Foster a performance‑driven culture with clear goals, regular feedback, and professional development plans.
- Oversee training and succession planning to build local talent.
5. Compliance & Governance
- Ensure 100% compliance with Ugandan customs regulations, tax laws, labour laws, and company policies.
- Act as the primary liaison with government authorities, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, and port/harbour officials.
- Safeguard company assets, intellectual property, and reputation.
6. Stakeholder & Client Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, international agents, and local partners.
- Personally handle escalated client issues and ensure swift, satisfactory resolution.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade associations, and government meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- MBA or Master’s degree is highly preferred.
Professional Experience
- 10–15 years of progressive experience in freight forwarding, shipping, or integrated logistics.
- At least 5 years in a senior management role with P&L responsibility.
- Proven track record of growing a logistics business in a competitive market.
Core Competencies
- Deep knowledge of international freight forwarding, multimodal transport, customs procedures, and supply chain management.
- Strong commercial acumen with exceptional negotiation and contract management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse, multicultural teams.
- Excellent analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in logistics software (e.g., CargoWise, SAP, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite
