The Export & Customs Clearance Officer will be responsible for managing the end-to-end export process for factory finished goods to Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The role involves handling customs declarations, ensuring compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), EFRIS, and East African Community (EAC) regulations, coordinating with freight forwarders and customs officials, and ensuring timely and compliant cross-border shipments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the export process for finished goods to Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
  • Independently process export declarations, amendments, and customs filings using the URA and EFRIS systems.
  • Apply for, organize, and manage EAC Certificates of Origin to ensure compliance with EAC rules and facilitate duty-free clearance.
  • Prepare, verify, and review all export documentation to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor container weights and ensure declaration information is accurate to minimize customs inspections, additional taxes, and shipment delays.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, transporters, customs authorities, and internal departments to ensure smooth and timely export operations.
  • Resolve customs clearance issues and respond promptly to documentation or compliance queries.
  • Maintain accurate export records and ensure all documentation is properly filed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Customs Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years' experience in export operations, customs clearance, or international logistics within Uganda.
  • Strong working knowledge of URA, EFRIS, and EAC Certificate of Origin application processes.
  • Good understanding of EAC customs regulations, rules of origin, and cross-border trade procedures.
  • Ability to independently manage daily customs clearance activities.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to handle customs clearance challenges efficiently.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience exporting goods within the East African Community (EAC).
  • Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of customs documentation, freight forwarding, and international shipping procedures.
