Credit Officer – FinTech
Job summary
The Credit Officer is responsible for sourcing and onboarding clients, assessing loan applications, conducting credit verification, recommending loans for approval, and ensuring proper monitoring and repayment of loans. The role requires strong sales, customer service, analytical, and digital skills, with strict adherence to the company’s credit policies and SOPs.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Identify and recruit new clients through digital platforms, referrals, field activities, and other approved channels.
- Receive, review, and process loan applications through the company’s digital lending systems.
- Conduct thorough client KYC, credit assessment, verification, and due diligence.
- Verify applicants’ employment/business information, referees, guarantors, collateral, and other required documentation.
- Assess clients’ ability and capacity to repay loans.
- Prepare accurate credit assessments and make recommendations for approval or rejection.
- Follow up with clients throughout the loan application and disbursement process.
- Monitor loan repayments and proactively follow up on overdue accounts.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client and loan records in the system.
- Meet assigned monthly targets for new client acquisition, loan applications, disbursements, and collections.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to encourage repeat business and referrals.
- Identify potential fraud, misrepresentation, or inconsistencies and report them immediately.
- Ensure all lending activities comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and internal SOPs.
- Submit daily/weekly reports, pipelines, and performance updates as required.
- Work closely with the Operations, Verification, Collections, and Management teams to improve portfolio performance.
- Educate clients on loan terms, repayment schedules, fees, and applicable requirements.
- Participate in marketing and business development activities to grow the company’s loan portfolio.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Procurement, or a related field.
- Previous experience in microfinance, digital lending, fintech, banking, or credit is an added advantage.
- Strong sales and business development skills.
- Good understanding of credit assessment and loan processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
- Ability to use digital platforms and loan management systems.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical ability.
- Target-driven, proactive, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced FinTech environment.

Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in, Sales and Marketing, Business Administration Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, or a related field
