Job summary

The role is similar in nature to an entry-level analyst position in a management consulting firm and is designed for early-career professionals with strong analytical capability, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to contribute to large-scale systems change. The Analyst will work closely with senior team members to support the design, analysis, and delivery of program activities, ensuring workstreams are executed to high-quality standards and within agreed timelines.

About the Opportunity:
The Agrifood System Transformation for Youth Employment (ASTYE) program in Uganda is a transformative initiative designed to address systemic challenges hindering agricultural development and youth employment, particularly for young women. Funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in partnership with DSG, AGRA, and GOAL, ASTYE aims to create dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young people while strengthening Uganda's agrifood ecosystem.

DSG is seeking a highly motivated Analyst to support the ASTYE Uganda program by contributing rigorous analysis, structured problem-solving, and high-quality outputs across priority workstreams. The role is similar in nature to an entry-level analyst position in a management consulting firm and is designed for early-career professionals with strong analytical capability, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to contribute to large-scale systems change. The Analyst will work closely with senior team members to support the design, analysis, and delivery of program activities, ensuring workstreams are executed to high-quality standards and within agreed timelines.


In This Role, You Will Make An Impact By:
Structured Problem Solving and Analysis
• Identify and structure complex problems, develop clear hypotheses, and apply appropriate analytical frameworks to test assumptions and solutions.
• Conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis using pragmatic, field-appropriate methods.
• Source, clean, validate, and quality-check data to ensure accuracy, reliability, and relevance.

Research and Stakeholder Engagement
• Conduct desk research and primary research to inform analyses and recommendations.
• Synthesize stakeholder inputs into clear insights that inform decision-making.
• Organize and conduct interviews with stakeholders up to mid-management level and support broader stakeholder engagement activities.

Insight and Knowledge Product Generation
• Execute analyses drawing on best practices from public and private sectors, and relevant academic disciplines.
• Develop clear, actionable insights for program teams, partners, and stakeholders.
• Produce high-quality presentations, briefing notes, and written outputs aligned with program standards.

Workstream Execution and Delivery
• Plan, prioritize, and manage assigned workstreams from start to finish, including data collection, analysis, content development, stakeholder input, and validation.
• Ensure delivery against agreed timelines, quality standards, and workplans.
• Support operational aspects of workstream delivery, including scheduling, logistics, procurement, and coordination of field activities and workshops.

Communication and Team Collaboration
• Engage proactively and regularly with the senior team members to seek input, test thinking, and refine outputs.
• Identify risks or issues affecting the timely delivery of workstreams and communicate them early, with proposed solutions.
• Contribute positively to a collaborative, high-performance team environment.


To Succeed In This Role, You Bring:
Education & Professional Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with strong academic performance (minimum GPA of 3.5 or equivalent).
• Less than 12 months of full-time professional work experience.

Skills & Technical Competencies
• Strong interest in agriculture, economic development, and systems-level change in Uganda (prior sector experience not required).
• Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Genuine intellectual curiosity and motivation to learn and innovate.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and the local working language.
• Ability to work effectively in teams and adapt to fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environments.
• Highly coachable, receptive to feedback, and committed to continuous improvement.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
