Financial Controller

Location: Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Managing Director / Board of Directors

Overview:

We are seeking a trustworthy, detail-oriented, and experienced Financial Controller to manage the full spectrum of financial operations for a small but growing company active in real estate development and commercial agriculture. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on financial management with strategic oversight and must demonstrate integrity, diligence, and accountability. Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities:

1. Budgeting & Financial Planning

• Develop and manage annual budgets for all business units. - Monitor and report on budget performance, with variance analysis and recommendations. - Support strategic planning and forecasting processes.

2. Bookkeeping & Accounting Oversight

• Maintain accurate bookkeeping and ensure timely financial recordkeeping.
• Handle general ledger management and oversee bank reconciliations.
• Manage monthly closings and prepare supporting documentation.

3. Payments Verification & Controls

• Review and verify all payment requests and supporting documentation.
• Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and manage cash flow.
• Monitor bank accounts and coordinate with vendors and service providers.

4. Financial Reporting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Generate management information reports (MIS) and ad hoc reports as needed.
• Ensure compliance with statutory filings and liaise with auditors.

5. Cash Flow, Payroll & Admin

• Prepare cash flow forecasts and manage liquidity.
• Oversee payroll preparation, statutory deductions, and timely submissions.
• Support procurement tracking and oversee cost allocations.

6. Liaison & External Coordination

• Coordinate with banks, auditors, tax bodies, and service providers.
• Ensure compliance with tax and financial regulations.
• Prepare reports and records for investor or board review.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Experience in the agriculture sector is required; experience in both agriculture and real estate is preferred.
• Professional accounting qualifications (e.g. CPA, ACCA) are an advantage.
• Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in financial control, budgeting, and reporting.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills are essential.
• Experience using Tally accounting software is preferred.
