The Agrifood System Transformation for Youth Employment (ASTYE) program in Uganda is a transformative initiative designed to address systemic challenges hindering agricultural development and youth employment, particularly for young women. Funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in partnership with DSG, AGRA, and GOAL, ASTYE aims to create dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young people while strengthening Uganda's agrifood ecosystem.
DSG is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Expert to develop and implement communication strategies that promote the organization's mission, programs, and impact. This role requires a strong understanding of communication principles, best practices, and a proven ability to develop and execute effective communication plans. The Communications Expert will be responsible for creating engaging content, managing media relations, developing communication materials, and supporting stakeholder engagement initiatives, primarily for the ASTYE Uganda program. This role requires excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal skills, creativity, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
In This Role, You Will Make An Impact By:
Communications Strategy
Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the organization's mission, strategic objectives, and program priorities.
Content Creation
Develop, write, edit, and proofread engaging and informative content for multiple platforms, including the organization’s website, social media channels, newsletters, reports, presentations, and other program materials, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
Communication Material Development
Design, produce, and oversee the distribution of communication materials, including brochures, flyers, posters, and reports, coordinating with designers, printers, and vendors as needed.
Media Relations
Develop and distribute press releases, media advisories, and related materials, manage media inquiries, and coordinate media engagements and events.
Brand Management
Develop, maintain, and apply the organization’s brand identity and messaging, ensuring consistent branding across all communication products and platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement
Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategies, organize events, workshops, and meetings, and produce tailored communication materials to support ongoing stakeholder communications.
Monitoring and Evaluation of Communications
Monitor and assess the effectiveness of communication activities, track performance metrics, and prepare periodic reports on communication outputs/outcomes.
Program Learning and Knowledge Capture
Work closely with the Impact and Learning Manager and program teams to intentionally capture program learning, evidence, and insights, and translate them into clear, accessible communication products that support learning, adaptation, and impact storytelling.
Impact Communication and Knowledge Sharing
Support the development of learning briefs, case studies, success stories, and evidence-based narratives that communicate program results, lessons learned, and impact to donors, partners, and other stakeholders.
To Succeed In This Role, You Bring
Education & Professional Experience
•Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field; experience in the non-profit or development sector is a plus.
•Experience managing social media platforms and websites.
•Experience producing learning products such as case studies, briefs, or impact stories is a plus.
Leadership & Technical Competencies
•Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to translate complex technical or programmatic content into clear and compelling narratives.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, InDesign) and familiarity with digital content management systems.
•Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an asset.
