ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT
Job summary
The Accounts Assistant will support the Finance Department in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. You will be responsible for the daily processing of transactions, performing regular reconciliations, and managing petty cash. A critical part of this role involves ensuring total compliance with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)

Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be responsible for a range of accounting and administrative duties, including:
- Maintaining accurate financial records by recording daily receipts, payments, and journal entries in the accounting software.
- Performing regular bank, mobile money, and petty cash reconciliations.
- Managing accounts payable and receivable functions, including verifying invoices and following up on outstanding balances.
- Assisting in the preparation and timely filing of statutory returns with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), including VAT, PAYE, WHT, and NSSF.
- Ensuring compliance with local tax regulations, including generating EFRIS-compliant invoices.
- Supporting the finance team during internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Handling general administrative and clerical support tasks within the finance department.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized university is required.
- Professional Certification: Partial completion of a professional qualification like CPA (Uganda) or ACCA (at least Level 1 or 2) is an added advantage.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5years of relevant work experience in an active accounting or bookkeeping role is mandatory.
- Technical
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Tally, or Sage is required.
- Familiarity with the URA portal and EFRIS system is a must.
