Job Description/Requirements

Job Title: Tax Accountant

Reports to: Finance Manager

Direct Reports: None

Department: Finance


Job Purpose

The overall purpose of the job is to ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission/filing of statutory taxes in compliance with the laws and set guidelines.


Key duties and responsibilities

  • Monitor daily system input on sales and receipts to ensure that the taxes have been captured accurately;
  • Periodically follow up with URA on any unresolved and arising tax matters;
  • Analyse and file monthly statutory returns; PAYE, NSSF, etc in a timely manner;
  • File monthly VAT refunds and follow up with URA and prepare a schedule for management;
  • Compile information on sales, purchases and taxes for external audits;
  • Act as liaison for the organization and KRA on matters taxes;
  • Prepare monthly VAT analysis and reconciliation in a timely manner;
  • Generate, review, and submit periodic receivable reports in a timely manner;
  • Stay up to date on all Tax Laws and changes;
  • Support audit exercises by providing required information to both internal and external auditors;
  • Ensure correct procedures and documentation are submitted for the importation of products and equipment;
  • Ensure adherence and compliance with URA Tax Regulations and requirements;
  • Keep the Management updated on changes in both existing and new Tax regulations; and
  • Any other responsibilities assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time


Working relationships

  • Internal Relationships: Invoicing, HR, Sales, Marketing, Administration
  • External Relationships: URA, NSSF, Customers


Knowledge, experience, and qualifications required

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Must be a qualified accountant with relevant professional qualifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or ACCA.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field
