Job Description/Requirements
Kijani Forestry is seeking a Compliance & Risk Officer to strengthen internal controls, monitor financial transactions, and ensure adherence to company policies. This role is essential in identifying potential risks, preventing financial losses, and maintaining operational integrity. The officer will work closely with finance, procurement, and field teams to detect irregularities, enhance compliance, and recommend improvements to minimize risks.
Risk Monitoring & Prevention
Investigate irregular transactions, expense claims, and procurement processes to identify potential policy violations.
Conduct periodic reviews of high-risk financial and operational processes to identify weaknesses and areas for improvement.
Develop and implement risk detection techniques, including transaction reviews and trend analysis.
Monitor cash handling, procurement approvals, and vendor payments to ensure compliance with policies and prevent financial risks.
Collaborate with other departments to identify and address emerging risks in daily operations.
Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure adherence to company policies, financial regulations, and donor requirements.
Regularly review financial and operational procedures to identify and close gaps that may lead to losses.
Conduct spot checks and random verifications of transactions and inventory records.
Ensure all compliance requirements are met, including regulatory, donor, and organizational standards.
Reporting & Process Improvement
Report any irregularities or compliance concerns to management with recommendations for corrective action.
Maintain a risk incident register and track resolutions of identified issues.
Train staff on compliance best practices, ethical financial management, and company policies.
Prepare and present detailed compliance and risk reports to senior management and stakeholders.
Continuously identify areas for process improvement and collaborate with relevant departments to implement better risk management practices.
General Compliance and Risk Management:
Identify, assess, and manage risks across the company’s operations and functions.
Develop and implement risk management strategies, policies, and procedures.
Perform regular risk assessments, monitor risk trends, and recommend risk mitigation measures.
Lead internal audits and investigations into potential compliance breaches or operational inefficiencies.
Develop and maintain risk management frameworks and policies in alignment with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
3 - 5 years of experience in internal audit, compliance, risk management, or financial oversight.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and mitigate risk, including trend analysis and irregular transaction detection.
In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance standards, and internal control systems.
Experience in financial audits, process improvement, or internal controls.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical judgment.
Ability to work independently and proactively identify risks.
