Job Title: Building Material Sales Specialist
Location: Uganda
Reports to: Sales Manager
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Purpose
The Building Material Sales Specialist is responsible for driving sales of sanitary ware and daily ceramics products (including toilets, basins, faucets, showers, bathtubs, plate, cups, bowl and related accessories) and their supporting systems to customers across Uganda. This role involves identifying new business opportunities, building and maintaining strong customer relationships, understanding client needs, and achieving sales targets. The specialist acts as a key liaison between the company and its customers, providing product expertise, after‑sales support, and market intelligence to support business growth in the building materials sector.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales & Business Development
- Actively prospect and acquire new customers, including contractors, developers, architects, retailers, and project owners, within the building materials market.
- Promote and sell the company’s sanitary ware products and accessories, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and project specifications.
- Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations, product demonstrations, and quotations to potential clients.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to close deals while maximising profitability.
- Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets as set by the Sales Manager.
2. Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, long‑lasting relationships with existing and potential customers through regular visits, calls, and follow‑ups.
- Understand customer needs, provide tailored product recommendations, and offer technical support as required.
- Resolve customer complaints, product issues, or delivery concerns promptly and professionally.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, orders, and feedback in the CRM system.
3. Product Knowledge & Market Intelligence
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of sanitary ware products, including features, benefits, installation requirements, and competitive alternatives.
- Stay informed about market trends, competitor activities, pricing strategies, and customer preferences in the building materials industry.
- Provide regular feedback to management on market developments, customer demands, and opportunities for new products or improvements.
4. Coordination & Support
- Collaborate with the warehouse and logistics teams to ensure timely order fulfilment and delivery to customers.
- Coordinate with the technical and installation teams to provide pre‑sales and after‑sales support, including site visits and product commissioning.
- Work closely with the marketing team to plan and execute promotional activities, trade shows, and product launches.
5. Reporting & Performance Management
- Prepare weekly and monthly sales reports, including pipeline updates, conversion rates, and revenue projections.
- Track and analyse sales performance against targets, identifying areas for improvement and corrective actions.
- Provide accurate sales forecasts to support inventory and production planning.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, or a related field.
- (A Diploma with extensive relevant experience may be considered.)
Experience:
- Minimum 2–3 years of sales experience in the building materials industry, with specific exposure to sanitary ware and accessories (e.g., toilets, faucets, showers, fittings).
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a B2B or B2C environment.
- Experience working with contractors, real estate developers, retail outlets, or project-based customers in Uganda or East Africa is highly desirable.
Language Requirement (Mandatory):
- Fluent in English (spoken and written) – must be able to communicate professionally with customers, prepare proposals and reports, and negotiate effectively in English.
- Proficiency in local languages (e.g., Luganda, Swahili) is a strong advantage for building rapport with clients.
Technical & Sales Skills:
- Excellent knowledge of sanitary ware products, including technical specifications, installation processes, and competitive brands.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, and closing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM software.
- Ability to read and interpret basic architectural drawings or plumbing layouts is a plus.
Soft Skills:
- Self-motivated, target-driven, and results-oriented with a proactive approach.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and customer-centric mindset.
- Ability to work independently and manage territory effectively.
- Resilient and able to handle rejection and overcome objections.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driving permit and willingness to travel extensively within Uganda to visit customers and project sites.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate client meetings and project deadlines.
- Prior work experience in Uganda or East Africa is highly desirable.
