Job summary
The Women Human Rights Defenders Network Uganda (WHRDNU) is dedicated to supporting and empowering women human rights defenders across Uganda. We are seeking a volunteer qualified to join our team and contribute to our mission. The Women Human Rights Defenders Network Uganda (WHRDN-U) is a nationwide membership organization of diverse women human rights defenders (WHRDs), organizations, and individuals. We currently represent over 148 WHRDs from diverse social movements in Uganda, promoting the rights of women defenders to a safe and secure work environment with a vision of having a society where fundamental human rights are upheld and respected. We exist to promote a feminist, holistic approach integrating a gender perspective as a framework for protecting WHRDs; We aim to provide WHRDs with access to gender-sensitive and timely protection and empowerment resources, tools to combat gender-based and other forms of violence connected to their work. WHRDN-U is hereby seeking to recruit competent and vibrant Ugandans to fill the following positions.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Maintain an organized filing and records system.
- Handle incoming calls, receive visitors, respond to phone queries, and direct calls to the appropriate staff members.
- Follow up with resource persons and consultants as required.
- Assist in scheduling and tracking staff planning meetings.
- Coordinate with the website focal person every month.
- Assist in scheduling staff activity debrief meetings.
- Follow up on staff reports, including activity reports, weekly, monthly, and quarterly submissions.
- Help coordinate staff development sessions.
- Assist in planning and organizing program events.
- Support the implementation of program activities.
- Represent the organization in meetings when needed.
- Assist in writing activity reports and meeting minutes.
- Work with program teams to update and maintain the membership database.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Secretariat.
- The ideal candidates for the Voluntary opportunity should at least have a Bachelor’s degree in social work, Social Sciences, Development studies, Gender & Women studies, Community psychology, and any relevant humanities
- The candidate should also be self-motivated, dynamic, hardworking, and innovative.
- Computer literacy skills
- The candidate should be outspoken and confident.
- Public speaking skills and likes people
- A keen interest in advancing human rights, especially women’s rights.
- Willingness to work as a team
- Have a voluntary spirit.
- Excellent command of the English language, thus can communicate fluently in spoken and written English.
- Improved organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Mastered paying attention to detail and accuracy in completing administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and record-keeping.
- Gained the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders, both in person and over the phone/email.
- Acquired strong customer service orientation with the ability to interact courteously and effectively with women defenders, clients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Improved self-confidence, public speaking skills, documentation, understanding of Human rights, Gender, and working with Civil Society
