Microhaem — the first 4th-generation IVD manufacturing plant in Africa — is looking for an experienced Research and Development Director to lead the development and lifecycle management of our medical devices. This is a leadership role for a strong systems thinker who combines deep technical expertise across software and hardware boundaries with proven experience driving product development in a fast-moving, stringently regulated startup environment, serving as our device subject matter expert across new product development, systems integration, design controls, risk management, and verification & validation.
Tasks
- Lead and oversee research and development projects to ensure alignment with the company's mission of enhancing patient lives through innovative technology.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify critical needs in medical diagnostics and develop strategies for addressing these gaps.
- Ensure all R&D activities comply with industry standards and regulations while maintaining a focus on quality and accountability.
- Foster a culture of boldness and challenge within the team, encouraging creative solutions and continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to report on progress, challenges, and future opportunities in line with the company's values and objectives.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. or Master's degree in Medical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in research and development within the medical or diagnostic laboratory industry.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing R&D teams, with strong project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- A deep commitment to innovation and quality, aligned with the company's mission to improve patient lives through technology.
