About the Opportunity:
The Agrifood System Transformation for Youth Employment (ASTYE) program in Uganda is a transformative initiative designed to address systemic challenges hindering agricultural development and youth employment, particularly for young women. Funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in partnership with DSG, AGRA, and GOAL, ASTYE aims to create dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young people while strengthening Uganda's agrifood ecosystem.
DSG is seeking a highly experienced Project Lead – Input Supply Chain Optimization to support the Program Manager by translating strategic direction into execution and coordinating public, private, and technical actors to strengthen and optimize agricultural input supply chains. The Project Lead will ensure that input supply-chain optimization activities primarily focused on fertilizers and agro-chemicals are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards, while promoting increased participation of women and youth across the input ecosystem.
In This Role, You Will Make An Impact By:
Project Delivery and Coordination
•Lead the day-to-day implementation of ASTYE’s input supply-chain optimization activities in line with approved workplans and budgets.
•Coordinate technical studies, pilots, and implementation efforts across priority supply chains.
•Support alignment and coordination among public, private, and development actors involved in input supply chains.
•Ensure timely delivery of diagnostics, solution designs, business cases, and implementation support activities.
Supply Chain Diagnostics and Solution Design
•Support comprehensive diagnostics to map, model, and analyze agricultural input supply chains, identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization.
•Support development of practical, scalable solutions that enhance supply-chain efficiency.
•Support validation and socialization of study findings with stakeholders to inform implementation.
•Support development of business/investment cases critical to supply-chain optimization, with explicit design for high participation of women and youth.
Systems Optimization and Capacity Building
•Support development of tools or models for optimized supply-chain planning and execution, including logistics, inventory management, and demand forecasting.
•Coordinate integration of optimization tools and processes into existing systems.
•Work with IT specialists and technical partners to support system integration and operationalization.
•Support capacity-building activities for supply-chain actors on supply-chain management, digitalization, and optimization practices.
•Facilitate collaboration and knowledge transfer between experienced and emerging supply-chain actors.
Coordination, Reporting, and Learning
•Coordinate closely with the Program Manager of Input Systems.
•Support cross-component integration with regulatory strengthening, extension, and other relevant areas.
•Prepare regular technical updates and inputs to program reports.
•Contribute to program learning, reflection, and adaptive management processes.
To Succeed In This Role, You Bring:
Education & Professional Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
•At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
•Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives involving public, private, and development actors.
•Experience conducting supply-chain diagnostics, modeling, and solution design is an advantage.
Leadership & Technical Competencies
•Strong understanding of agricultural input markets and their associated logistics and distribution systems.
•Familiarity with digital supply-chain tools, demand forecasting, inventory management, or logistics optimization is an advantage.
•Strong coordination, facilitation, and communication skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
