Position Title : PET Recycling Plant Supervisor

Reporting To : Plant Manager / Operations Manager

Role Purpose

To supervise and coordinate all PET bottle recycling plant operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, environmental compliance, and cost objectives are achieved while effectively leading production teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Operations Management

  • Supervise daily PET recycling operations including sorting, washing, grinding, hot washing, drying, and flake production.
  • Ensure production targets are achieved as per approved plans.
  • Monitor machine utilization and plant productivity.
  • Minimize downtime and production losses.
  • Coordinate shift activities and manpower allocation.

2. Quality Assurance

  • Ensure PET flakes meet customer quality specifications.
  • Monitor contamination levels, moisture content, PVC presence, labels, and foreign materials.
  • Coordinate quality inspections and testing activities.
  • Implement corrective actions for quality deviations.

3. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Enforce plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings and safety briefings.
  • Ensure proper PPE usage by all employees.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss events.
  • Ensure environmental compliance and proper waste management practices.

4. Maintenance Coordination

  • Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
  • Work closely with maintenance technicians to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Monitor machine performance and reliability.
  • Report critical equipment issues promptly.

5. Inventory & Material Control

  • Monitor PET bottle feedstock availability.
  • Control consumption of chemicals, utilities, spares, and consumables.
  • Maintain accurate production and inventory records.
  • Support warehouse and logistics teams.

6. Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise operators, sorters, machine attendants, and shift leaders.
  • Train employees on SOPs and safety requirements.
  • Conduct performance reviews and coaching sessions.
  • Promote teamwork and continuous improvement culture.

7. Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
  • Monitor KPIs and production efficiency metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Participate in audits and management reviews.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.

Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in PET recycling, plastics recycling, packaging, FMCG manufacturing, or process industries.
  • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role.

Skills & Competencies

  • PET washing and recycling process knowledge.
  • Production planning and control.
  • Team leadership and people management.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental management.
  • ERP/MIS reporting systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Preferred East African Experience

  • Experience managing multicultural workforces.
  • Understanding of regional recycling supply chains and collection networks.
  • Exposure to EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) programs and sustainability initiatives within East Africa.
