Our client is looking for a proactive and results-driven individual. Legal Manager who will oversee and manage all legal matters for the organization in Uganda, ensuring compliance with local laws, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Banking or Fintech sectors, with proven experience in corporate, commercial, regulatory, and contractual matters.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Legal Advisory: Provide strategic legal counsel to senior management regarding fintech operations, financial services regulation, and commercial matters.
• Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, including vendor, merchant, and partnership contracts
• Compliance & Regulation: Ensure strict compliance with Ugandan laws, particularly banking, anti-money laundering (AML), and data privacy regulations.
• Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary contact for regulatory bodies, government authorities, and external counsel.
• Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement internal policies to mitigate legal and operational risks.
• Dispute Resolution: Manage litigation, disputes, and legal enforcement actions.
• Training: Conduct training for employees on legal risks and compliance.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
• Postgraduate qualifications (LLM or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum 5–7 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years in Banking, Fintech, or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan regulatory and compliance frameworks affecting banking and digital financial services.
• Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and commercial agreements.
• Proven ability to provide practical legal advice in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
