About the Opportunity:
The Agrifood System Transformation for Youth Employment (ASTYE) program in Uganda is a transformative initiative designed to address systemic challenges hindering agricultural development and youth employment, particularly for young women. Funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented in partnership with DSG, AGRA, and GOAL, ASTYE aims to create dignified and fulfilling work opportunities for young people while strengthening Uganda's agrifood ecosystem.
DSG is seeking a highly knowledgeable and experienced Gender and Youth Expert to provide technical expertise and support to the ASTYE Uganda program. The Expert will play a critical role in ensuring the program effectively integrates gender and youth considerations and contributes to empowering young women in Uganda's agri-food sector. This role requires a deep understanding of gender and youth issues in development, particularly within the agriculture sector, and the ability to translate this understanding into practical program interventions. The Gender and Youth Expert will work closely with the Impact and Learning Manager, other program delivery team members, relevant stakeholders, and partners.
In This Role, You Will Make An Impact By:
Technical Expertise and Research
Provide technical expertise and conduct research on gender and youth issues relevant to the ASTYE Uganda program, focusing on the specific challenges and opportunities related to young women's empowerment in Uganda's agri-food sector.
Program Design and Implementation Support
Provide technical input and support to the design and implementation of gender- and youth-sensitive program activities, ensuring alignment with the ASTYE Uganda program's gender and youth strategy.
Capacity Building
Develop and deliver training modules and capacity building programs for staff, partners, and stakeholders on gender analysis, gender mainstreaming, youth engagement, and other relevant topics.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Contribute to the program's monitoring and evaluation efforts by developing gender- and youth-sensitive indicators, collecting data disaggregated by sex and age, and analyzing results related to gender and youth outcomes.
Knowledge Management
Document lessons learned, best practices, and success stories related to gender and youth integration in agri-food systems development, contributing to the program's knowledge management repository.
Stakeholder Engagement
Participate in stakeholder meetings and workshops, representing the ASTYE program and providing technical expertise on gender and youth issues.
To Succeed In This Role, You Bring:
Education & Professional Experience
•Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, development studies, social sciences, or a related field.
•Minimum of 5 years of experience working on gender and youth issues in development, preferably within the agricultural sector.
•Demonstrated experience in gender mainstreaming and designing and implementing gender- and youth-sensitive programs
Leadership & Technical Competencies
•Strong understanding of the Ugandan context and the specific challenges and opportunities related to gender and youth in the agri-food sector.
•Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
•Fluency in English is required; knowledge of local Ugandan languages is an asset.
