Supervises: Credit and Recovery Officers
Scope: The overall role of the position is to drive sustainable loan portfolio growth while maintaining strong portfolio quality and disciplined recoveries. The Supervisor is a team leader with responsibility for supervising the Credit and Recovery team in client acquisition, credit appraisal, loan monitoring, and recovery activities.
Responsibilities
1. Portfolio Growth and Business Development
• Ensure portfolio growth in line with annual, quarterly and monthly targets set by management.
• Lead and participate directly in customer mobilization, prospecting and acquisition of new borrowers within approved target markets.
• Personally manage an assigned portfolio or sales target and support Credit Officers in achieving individual disbursement and client acquisition targets.
• Ensure diversification of the loan portfolio so that no single product, sector, or customer segment creates excessive concentration risk.
• Review existing credit products to ensure continued relevance to Crane Capital’s mission of providing responsible credit to micro and small enterprises.
• Identify opportunities for new or improved loan products and recommend appropriate product changes to management.
• Continually review the geographical spread and reach of Crane Capital’s products and recommend viable areas for expansion.
2. Portfolio Quality and Recovery
• Ensure Crane Capital’s Portfolio at Risk (PAR >30 days) remains below 10% or any lower target subsequently approved by management.
• Monitor arrears daily and ensure immediate follow-up on missed instalments before accounts deteriorate into long-term default.
• Review current credit and recovery procedures and recommend improvements that strengthen underwriting, monitoring and collections.
• Improve credit methodologies and processes to direct lending toward lower-risk, high-impact and financially viable businesses.
• Maintain and continually improve credit scoring and risk assessment tools.
• Coordinate recovery of non-performing loans, including field visits, guarantor follow-up, restructuring recommendations and lawful recovery measures.
• Ensure proper classification of delinquent accounts and timely provisioning/reporting in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
3. Supervision, Controls and Reporting
• Supervise, coach and provide field support to Credit Officers and Recovery Officers.
• Set weekly and monthly work plans, allocate recovery cases and review individual staff performance against agreed targets.
• Conduct regular portfolio review meetings and ensure agreed recovery actions are implemented.
• Review loan files for completeness, compliance and quality before recommendation or escalation for approval.
• Provide the COO with accurate weekly and monthly reports covering disbursements, outstanding portfolio, repayments, arrears, PAR, recoveries, active borrowers and key risks.
• Ensure adherence to the Credit Policy, Recovery Policy, AML/KYC procedures, customer protection standards and all other applicable internal controls.
• Undertake any other duties reasonably assigned by the COO.
