About the Business
We operate a sports club and restaurant in northern Kampala, a place where people come to eat, relax, watch and play sport, and spend time with friends and family. The business is growing, and we are looking for a Club Manager who wants to grow with it.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You will run the place day to day, lead the team, look after our customers and help us find new ways to bring more people through the door.
Purpose of the Role
The Club Manager is responsible for the smooth daily running of the sports club and restaurant, and for growing sales, customer numbers and the reputation of the business. You will lead the team, keep standards high, control costs and report regularly to the owner on how the business is performing.
This role suits someone early in their career who is ready to step into responsibility, learn quickly and build a track record of delivering results.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Growth and Sales
• Attract new customers and bring back regular ones through promotions, events, partnerships and good service.
• Build relationships with nearby businesses, schools, corporate groups, sports teams and community organisations to create steady bookings and repeat business.
• Plan and run activities that bring in revenue, such as match-day viewing, tournaments, club nights, group bookings and special offers.
• Come up with practical ideas to increase sales, improve margins and use the facilities better
• Promote the club and restaurant through social media, word of mouth, local networks and community engagement.
2. Daily Operations
• Open, run and close the club and restaurant each day, making sure everything is ready for customers.
• Oversee the restaurant, bar, sports facilities and customer areas so they are clean, safe, organised and welcoming.
• Make sure food and drink are prepared and served to the standard the business expects.
• Manage stock levels, ordering and supplier relationships so the business never runs short or over-orders.
• Keep equipment and facilities in good working order and arrange repairs and maintenance when needed.
• Make sure health, hygiene and safety requirements are followed at all times.
3. Team Leadership
• Supervise, motivate and coordinate all staff across the restaurant, bar and club.
• Prepare work schedules and make sure every shift is properly covered.
• Brief and coach staff, set clear expectations and give honest feedback.
• Take part in recruiting new staff and make sure they are properly trained and settled in.
• Handle staff concerns and discipline fairly and consistently, and keep the team spirit positive.
4. Customer Service
• Set the tone for excellent service and be visible on the floor, greeting and talking to customers.
• Deal with complaints and problems quickly, calmly and professionally.
• Gather customer feedback and use it to improve the experience.
• Make sure the club is a place customers want to come back to.
5. Financial Control and Reporting
• Handle daily cash and sales records accurately and make sure all takings are properly accounted for.
• Monitor costs such as stock, wages and utilities, and look for ways to reduce waste and protect profit.
• Prepare regular reports for the owner on sales, expenses, stock, customer numbers and staff matters.
• Flag problems and opportunities early, with suggestions on what to do about them.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
• A Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Marketing or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Some experience in customer service, sales, hospitality, retail or a similar environment.
• Ability to supervise and motivate a team.
An advantage
• Previous experience in a restaurant, bar, sports club, hotel or events setting.
• Basic understanding of stock control, cash handling and simple financial reporting.
• Experience organizing events or promotions.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar tools, and a point-of-sale system.
Extensive management experience is not required. We care more about initiative, commitment and the ability to deliver results than about a long CV.
