Job summary
The Accountant will oversee the comprehensive management of the daily financial operations of Covermark Holdings. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing timely financial reports to management to support strategic decision-making in Covermark Holdings and its subsidiaries. This role requires a versatile professional capable of managing diverse portfolios while ensuring seamless reporting to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
Job descriptions & requirements
- EFT & Payment Management: Oversee all Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) and digital banking operations, ensuring secure, accurate, and authorized processing of vendor payments and staff salaries.
- Ledger Management: Maintain distinct and accurate general ledgers for Covermark Holding’s subsidiaries, ensuring proper inter-company reconciliations.
- Receivables & Payables: Manage premium collections for Covermark Holding’s subsidiaries
- IRA Reporting: Prepare and file all mandatory periodic reports with the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) of Uganda, ensuring strict adherence to liquidity and solvency requirements.
- Taxation: Manage the full tax cycle (VAT, WHT, PAYE, and Income Tax) for all entities via the URA portal.
- Ensure full compliance with Ugandan tax laws, including timely filing of PAYE, NSSF, VAT, and Income Tax.
- Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit process and ensure all documentation is in order.
- Monitor changes in financial regulations to ensure the company remains compliant at all times.
- Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Prepare comprehensive audit files and ensure all 2025 financial records are ready for the 2026 audit cycle.
- Bank & Stakeholder Relations: Liaise with commercial banks regarding EFT limits and transaction queries, and with the IRA regarding compliance status.
- Integrated Reporting: Produce summarized monthly management accounts and detailed year-end financial statements for each subsidiary.
- Budget Oversight: Develop and monitor annual budgets, providing variance analysis to explain deviations in operational costs or project spending.
- Provide insightful financial analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and revenue growth.
- Implement and maintain robust internal financial controls to prevent fraud and errors.
- Manage company assets and maintain an updated fixed asset register.
- Assist in managing corporate insurance policies and related financial risks.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Certification: Full professional qualification (CPA Uganda or ACCA).
- Experience:3-5 years of accounting experience.
- Software: Expert proficiency in accounting ERPs (QuickBooks/Tally), the URA/IRA online filing systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Digital Proficiency: Advanced skills in EFT platforms and automated financial reporting tools.
- Integrity: High level of professional ethics and honesty.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in data entry and financial analysis.
- Communication: Ability to explain complex financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
- Time Management: Ability to meet strict deadlines for tax filings and monthly reports.
