ABOUT US

SQUARE ENERGY provides solar power and water solutions in Uganda, including solar installation and maintenance, battery and inverter systems, solar street lighting, borehole drilling and water pumping.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Sales Engineer based in Kampala who can combine technical knowledge with active customer development.

You will identify new business opportunities, understand customers’ power and water requirements, prepare proposals and quotations, and follow opportunities through to closing and project delivery. The role involves working from our Kampala office, visiting customers and attending project sites as required.

This is a customer-facing sales role with technical responsibilities, not an installation-only position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop new business through field visits, referrals, direct outreach and partnerships. Build relationships with customers such as schools, hospitals, businesses, property owners and other organisations.

• Assess customer requirements, including power or water needs, existing systems, site conditions, budget, purchasing timeline and decision-making process.

• Recommend suitable solar, battery, inverter and water-pumping solutions within your technical competence. Work with the technical team on system sizing, equipment selection and more complex project requirements.

• Identify and develop borehole drilling opportunities. Coordinate site assessments, technical input, quotations and customer communication with the relevant project teams.

• Prepare and present proposals, explain product and service value, respond to customer questions, negotiate within approved terms and follow up consistently to secure orders.

• Maintain accurate records of leads, quotations and follow-up actions. Work towards agreed sales targets and coordinate with installation and service teams to support delivery, customer satisfaction and after-sales enquiries.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Water Engineering or a related technical field. Candidates with equivalent relevant practical experience will also be considered.

• Preferably at least two years of relevant experience in solar systems, batteries and inverters, electrical equipment, water pumping or related technical sales.

• Practical customer-facing experience, with the ability to explain your personal contribution to customer development, quotations, sales or project delivery.

• Confidence in approaching new customers, conducting meetings, presenting solutions and following up on business opportunities.

• Good spoken and written English, basic computer skills, and the ability to prepare quotations and maintain customer records. Luganda or other relevant local language skills are an advantage.

• Willingness to work on-site in Kampala and travel for customer visits and project assignments as required.

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES

Experience with LiFePO4 batteries, solar water pumping, borehole project sales, institutional customers or tender preparation will be an advantage.

Experience across every service area is not required. We welcome candidates with a strong foundation in one or more relevant technical areas who are willing to develop their knowledge of our wider product and service range.

The borehole-related responsibilities focus on customer development and project coordination; this is not a drilling-rig operator position.
