Technical Sales Engineer for Uganda
Job descriptions & requirements
1. Technical Sales & Business Development
Territory Strategy: Design and execute a territory-based sales strategy targeting Uganda's industrial, manufacturing, construction, mining, and oil & gas sectors.
Lead Generation: Identify and pursue new business opportunities through cold outreach, site visits, referrals, and industry events.
Consultative Selling: Conduct in-depth needs assessments and technical consultations with EHS Managers, Procurement Officers, HSE teams, and Plant Managers.
Regulatory Guidance: Provide expert guidance on correct PPE selection matching workplace hazards to compliance obligations under Uganda's Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA 2006).
Commercial Documentation: Prepare detailed technical proposals, Bills of Quantities (BQs), and competitive tenders.
Deal Closure: Negotiate and close sales contracts while protecting company margins.
Target Achievement: Consistently meet and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales revenue targets.
2. Product & Technical Expertise
Portfolio Mastery: Maintain expert-level knowledge of Kema East Africa's full PPE product portfolio, including:
Gloves: Cut-resistant (EN 388), chemical/heat-resistant, welding, and disposable.
Safety Footwear: Steel-toe boots (S1/S2/S3), anti-static, and metatarsal protection.
Head, Eye & Face: Hard hats (Class A/B/C/E), safety goggles (EN 166/ANSI Z87.1), and arc flash protection.
Clothing & Apparel: Flame-retardant (EN ISO 11612), chemical-splash, and high-visibility.
Hearing & Respiratory: SNR-rated earmuffs/earplugs, dust masks, and full-face respirators.
Specialized: Fall protection, first aid supplies, and safety signage.
Standards & Audits: Advise clients on international standards (ISO, EN, ANSI/ISEA, NFPA) and UNBS (Uganda National Bureau of Standards) requirements. Conduct on-site product demonstrations, PPE audits, and hazard assessments.
3. Account Management & Client Retention
Relationship Building: Nurture a portfolio of key accounts to ensure high customer satisfaction, repeat business, and contract renewals.
Client Training: Develop and deliver customized PPE training sessions, toolbox talks, and product inductions at client facilities.
Proactive Management: Monitor client usage patterns to propose restocking plans, annual supply agreements, and product upgrades.
4. Market Intelligence & Administration
Market Mapping: Conduct ongoing competitor analysis and map untapped or emerging sectors in the Ugandan industrial safety market.
Reporting: Submit structured weekly call reports, monthly pipeline reviews, and market intelligence updates to the Regional Sales Director.
CRM & Systems: Maintain a live and accurate CRM database of all prospects, clients, and sales activities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with procurement, logistics, and finance teams to ensure seamless order fulfillment and demand forecasting.
Requirements
Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, etc.), Occupational Health & Safety, Business Administration, or a related field.
Preferred: Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or local environmental/safety certifications).
Added Advantage: Training or certification in relevant PPE standards (ISO, EN, ANSI).
Experience
5 to 7 years of hands-on technical sales experience in the PPE, industrial safety, or related B2B product sector (majority of this experience must be in the Ugandan market).
Verifiable track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets within Uganda’s industrial, manufacturing, or construction segments.
An established professional network among EHS Managers, procurement officers, and plant managers in Uganda.
Experience handling government tenders, institutional procurement, and corporate supply agreements.
Exposure to multi-country East African sales operations (Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda) is a plus.
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of Uganda OSHA 2006, the Workers Compensation Act, and Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) requirements.
Familiarity with international standards: ISO 9001, EN 388, EN 166, ANSI Z87.1, NFPA 2112, EN ISO 11612.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM platforms.
Personal Competencies & Logistics
Strong technical acumen balanced with a commercially driven, consultative mindset.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills—capable of engaging from the shop floor to the C-suite.
Valid Ugandan driving license and own reliable transport (or willingness to utilize company transport).
Fluency in English and Swahili (or other widely used local business languages).
Willingness to travel extensively across Uganda and occasionally within the broader East African region.
