Job Description
The Geology team plays an instrumental role in the provision of services that ensure safe and efficient underground Mining operations. The purpose of the Principal Geologist role is to oversee the preparation and maintenance of all underground mine geological information, working closely with the technical and operational teams to deliver safe production.
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):
- Lead the underground geology team to drive best geological practice and deliver business outcomes.
- Coordinating all geological activities, budgets, contractor services and plans relating to the continual improvement of the geology department.
- Collaborating with and providing geological information to stakeholders to assist with the design process.
- Managing ore control and dilution within company set standards.
- Identify trends and industry innovations to develop the geology team and optimize processes.
- Contributing to the establishment, development and continuous improvement of systems and practices to enable Geology's services to be delivered more effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure the daily and End of Month reporting is produced to a high standard.
- Periodic review of stope and development overbreak and report on variance for attention.
- Developing new and reviewing current procedures and safe work practices within the underground mine Geology team to ensure these match current risk management practices.
- Upholding health, safety, statutory, regulatory, and licensing standards as defined by local statutory and corporate requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend new software and equipment purchase; stay current on new technological innovations and software applications.
- Oversee the operational and capital expenditure in the department, ensuring that the capital management framework policies are complied with.
- Oversee the compliance with internal and external audits.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and experience
- Possess a Geology Honors Degree from a recognized Institution.
- At least 10 years’ post-qualification experience in Mine Geology with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on safety, team development, and mentorship.
- Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement strategies in Grade control and reconciliation.
- Proficiency in geological databases, modeling software, and integrated management systems.
- Demonstrated experience with complex Geology
- Experience in the use of relevant software such as Deswik, Datamine, and Leapfrog
- Ability to develop preventive actions as opposed to corrective actions.
- Pro-active and able to anticipate and manage business needs.
- Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, integrity, resilience and commitment to pursue organizational goals in a changing environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
- Willingness to work on rotation, in remote locations.
