Description
The International Scholar (ITS) seeks intellectually curious and analytically rigorous candidates with excellent research and writing skills to join its Writing Staff for Global Analytico, ITS’ digital Periodical of International Affairs.
Staff Writers report to the Editorial Division but remain largely autonomous. Successful candidates will have a robust background and strong interest in international affairs, fill a need within ITS’ writing portfolio, demonstrate a commitment to ITS’ Vision and Mission, and have excellent communication skills.
To apply for this position, candidates must have published at least one article in Global Analytico as a Guest Author within a year of the date of their application. Following their publication, candidates should direct their application to ITS’ HR Team in accordance with this vacancy posting. Applications sent to editors will be disregarded.
[Please note that at this time, ITS is a 100% volunteer-based organization, and unable to provide financial remuneration. This is an unpaid, part-time position.]
Responsibilities

  • Write articles regularly (no less frequently than once per month) for publication in Global Analytico in English;
  • Proactively send pitches and article ideas to the Editorial Division for consideration;
  • Track news relating to the Staff Writers’ area(s) of focus, keeping abreast of breaking news and developments, as well as longer-term trends;
  • Participate in select writing projects (article series, quarterly publications, etc) at the direction of the Editorial Division, according to availability; and
  • Communicate regularly with the Editorial Division.

Additional Opportunities

  • Staff Writers may also be granted the opportunity to write a regular column on some area of expertise, issue, or region (in coordination with the Editorial Division);
  • Staff Writers may be invited to join The World in Perspective Podcast from time to time to discuss issues on which they have particular competence; and
  • As Global Analytico expands, Staff Writers may be presented with opportunities to support publication in additional languages.

Qualifications
Requirements:

  • Must have or be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs/Relations/Studies, Political Science, or other applicable discipline;
  • Significant work or study experience may be considered in lieu of a degree;
  • A strong interest in researching and analyzing issues within a particular discipline of international affairs, law, public policy, economics, security, or other core subject;
  • Excellent communication skills & ability to work efficiently in a remote environment;
  • Ability to write at least one article per calendar month (allowing time for editing); and
  • Native or near-native fluency in English.

Desirable

  • Experience writing and/or editing opinion, editorial, analysis, or other magazine-style publications;
  • Experience writing on topics relating to international affairs, law, public policy, economics, security, or other related discipline; and
  • Fluency in a second language (especially Spanish, French, Chinese, or Arabic).
