Job descriptions & requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient consultation, diagnosis, and management of ENT conditions, including diseases of the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck.
  • Perform a full range of ENT surgical procedures, including but not limited to tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, septoplasty, FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery), myringotomy/grommet insertion, mastoidectomy, and head & neck surgeries.
  • Manage emergency ENT presentations, including airway emergencies, epistaxis, foreign body removal, and trauma.
  • Conduct pre-operative assessment, obtain informed consent, and provide post-operative care and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiology, audiology, radiology, and other specialty departments for integrated patient care.
  • Supervise and mentor resident doctors, medical officers, and nursing staff assigned to the ENT department.
  • Participate in the development of ENT clinical protocols, quality assurance initiatives, and patient safety programs.
  • Support outreach, screening camps, and community health initiatives as required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in line with hospital and regulatory documentation standards.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for ENT emergencies.
  • Contribute to departmental growth planning, including equipment needs and service line development.

     

Qualifications

  • MBChB with postgraduate specialization in Otorhinolaryngology (MS/MD/DNB ENT, or equivalent recognized qualification).
  • Minimum 3 years of post-residency clinical experience as a practicing ENT Surgeon, with demonstrated surgical volume and outcomes.

     

Experience

  • Valid registration/license to practice with the relevant national medical council, and eligibility for registration with the Uganda Medical & Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC).
  • Fellowship or additional sub-specialty training (e.g., Head & Neck Oncology, Otology, Rhinology, Skull Base Surgery) is an added advantage.
  • Proven track record in independently performing major and minor ENT surgical procedures.
  • Prior experience setting up or leading an ENT department/unit is highly desirable.

  • Strong clinical and surgical acumen with sound decision-making under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient counselling and multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Leadership ability to mentor junior staff and build departmental capability.
  • Commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and continuous professional development.
  • Willingness to relocate to Kampala, Uganda, and adapt to a multicultural clinical environment.
