School Nurse (Part Time Position)

Qualification and Experience
- A Diploma in Nursing. A Bachelor in Nursing is an added advantage.
- Must have a practicing License from the Uganda Nurses & Midwives Council.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Strong clinical and assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate individual and community health records.
- Team player who works productively with a wide range of people.
- Demonstrated ability for empathy.
- Good interpersonal and customer care skills.
Healthcare Services:
- Provide immediate and timely care to students and staff for injuries and illnesses.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers and with parental consent.
- Manage chronic health conditions and develop individualized healthcare plans for students with special needs.
Sick bay Management
- Ensure the sick bay is stocked with appropriate medications and first-aid materials to support student and staff.
- Ensure that the surroundings of the sickbay both within and outside the building are clean.
Health Education and Monitoring of School Community Health issues:
- Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Develop and implement health education programs and materials.
- Work with the Safety and Security Officer to ensure first-aid training is conducted
- Organize regular health awareness sessions during assemblies or class time. Observe national and global health days (e.g., World AIDS Day, World Mental Health Day).
Emergency Response:
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and CPR as needed.
- Develop and implement emergency care plans and procedures.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with teachers, counsellors, and administrators to support student health and well-being.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, parents, and community healthcare providers.
Record Keeping
- Maintaining a register of all students and staff reporting for sickness.
- Maintain accurate nurse’s notes and records, including summaries of services provided
- Be competent and up to date with current child protection policies and procedures
- Record and report all cases of diagnosed or suspected communicable disease to the school administration.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with local and national health regulations and school policies.
- Prepare and submit health reports as required by the school and health authorities.
