As the region's oldest socioeconomic binding asset, Rift Valley Railways currently has a 25-year concession to operates a total of 2541.44 kilometers of track network linking the shores of the Indian Ocean to the agriculturally rich hinterland of the Kenya Highlands and Uganda.

To achieve its Vision of becoming the leading transport and logistics solutions provider in Africa by year 2020, we are  looking for suitably qualified candidates for the position of Regional Security Officer based in Kampala.

Reports To: General Manager Security

Scope of Role.

This position is responsible for supervision of reviewing, planning, coordination, Organizing and auditing of the company’s security and safety operations and systems; establishing and implementing policies and procedures to safeguard the assets of the Company, staff, customers and visitors.

The focus of the position is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all employees and Customers of the company, and also that assets and confidential records are safeguarded in the most cost-effective manner.

Key Strategic Deliverables

  • Develop and implement general security and safety policies and procedures, ensuring strict adherence to them and advise Management accordingly.
  • Investigate security breaches and take remedial action thereof and apprise Management of actions being taken and results achieved.
  • Advise and liaise with Management and other stakeholders on all ongoing security and safety related aspects, and formulate preventative measures.
  • To closely monitor the company’s CCTV system and forward reports to the management with appropriate recommendations.
  • To collect intelligence reports regarding the company and advice the Management accordingly.
  • To advice the management on matters regarding and/ or criminal nature and liaise with security agencies accordingly, to have an updated security information.
  • To investigate criminal/ traffic cases involving employees/ company vehicle and call the police for appropriate action.
  • To supervise the security personnel and ensure company security goals and objectives are achieved.
  • To conduct operational training for security personnel i.e. fire drills, first aid and evacuation procedures etc.
  • To enforce discipline on security personnel to ensure right people get into the premises as per the company rules and regulations.
  • To ensure regular patrols in and around the company to keep would be criminals away.
  • To screen new recruits and to ensure their follow-ups after engagement.
  • To liaise with outsourced Security firms for deployment of guards.
  • To ensure that all guards inspect all employees as per the rules and regulations.
  • Enforcing compliance of security policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper and effective handling/ taking over in all areas.
  • To ensure all guards are smartly dressed in company uniform.
  • To ensure all confidential matters/ reports are submitted to the Management.
  • To ensure all assignment instructions are followed.
  • To ensure random check of all out going goods.
  • Be able to identify recurrent issues/problems, with the aim of increasing safety and Security and preventing further disruptions.
  • Ensure the efficiency of all implemented physical, electronic and organizational security safety systems at regular intervals in the company buildings and other properties.
  • Maintain an up to date database of all security matters, incidents and security personnel.

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL COMPETENCIES
Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice
  • Diploma in Criminal Justice is an added advantage
  • Experience in CCTV monitoring.
  • Police inspector and above.
  • Experience of 5 years.
  • Good English/ Kiswahili speaking.

Knowledge

  • Computer Proficiency in:- MS Office, Excel
  • Power point
  • Microsoft Access
  • Professional Skills:
  • Interpersonal effectiveness
  • Ability to strike good relationships with other functions
