Are you highly organized, ambitious, hands-on, and excited about bringing creative ideas to life? Dormi Arts Initiative is looking for a Creative Productions Lead to oversee the day-to-day production and fabrication of creative items, installations, furniture, décor, and artistic projects.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys managing people, projects, solving problems, learning new things, and turning ideas into quality finished work. You do not necessarily have to be an artist - we are looking for someone with leadership ability, initiative, and a strong willingness to grow within a creative environment.


About Dormi Arts Initiative

Dormi Arts Initiative is a creative social enterprise based in Uganda that uses art, design, and craftsmanship to drive social impact, skills development, and economic empowerment. We work with artists, artisans, and young creatives to produce high-quality creative works, while building pathways for training, employment, and entrepreneurship within the creative industry. 

Role Summary

The production manager oversees the planning, execution, and quality of all production and fabrication projects within the organization. This role involves managing the fabrication team, ensuring production schedules are met, maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards, and optimizing processes for efficiency. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, technical expertise, ability to research new creative concepts, and a commitment to delivering high-quality products on time and within budget.


JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Fabrication Operations Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all fabrication activities to meet production targets and customer requirements.
  • Develop and implement efficient production processes, ensuring optimal use of resources.
  • Monitor the progress of fabrication projects and adjust plans as necessary to meet deadlines.


2. Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Lead, train, and manage a team of artists, artisans, and fabricators.
  • Assign tasks and responsibilities based on team members’ skills and project requirements.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.


3. Quality Assurance

  • Establish and enforce quality control standards to ensure all fabricated products meet specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct inspections of materials, components, and finished products to ensure compliance.
  • Address and resolve any quality issues promptly.


4. Health and Safety Compliance

  • Promote and enforce adherence to health and safety regulations within the department.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Ensure all team members are trained on safe equipment operation and emergency procedures.


5. Inventory and Resource Management

  • Manage inventory levels of raw materials, tools, and equipment needed for fabrication projects.
  • Coordinate with procurement to source materials in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance and repair schedules to minimize downtime.


6. Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with design, workshop, and marketing teams to ensure projects align with customer specifications.
  • Provide technical input and support during project planning and design phases.
  • Communicate project updates and challenges to senior management and other stakeholders.


7. Process Improvement and Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to improve fabrication techniques, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new creativity and trends, and best practices that align with the vision of Dormi Arts Initiative.
  • Implement innovative solutions to enhance the company’s fabrication capabilities.


Requirements

  • Background or experience in project management
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and coordination skills
  • Computer literacy and ability to use digital tools for reporting, planning, and communication
  • Ability to supervise teams and manage multiple projects
  • Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
  • Positive attitude towards learning, innovation, and creativity
  • Experience in furniture production, fabrication, interior installations, or workshop environments or related fields is an added advantage
