Logistics Officer / Dispatch In-Charge

Location: Namanve, Uganda

Supervises: 4 Direct Reports + Team of Loaders & Transporters

Job Purpose

The Logistics Officer / Dispatch In-Charge will oversee and manage all dispatch operations, ensuring efficient planning, loading, and delivery of goods across Uganda. The ideal candidate will lead a team, set measurable KPIs, and drive operational excellence through innovation, integrity, and strategic thinking.

Key Responsibilities

Dispatch & Logistics Operations

● Manage the day-to-day operations of the dispatch department.

● Plan optimal delivery routes, taking into account road conditions and regional constraints within Uganda.

● Coordinate with loaders, transporters, and logistics staff to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

● Monitor and track fleet movement to ensure efficiency and compliance with delivery schedules.

Team Leadership

● Supervise and mentor a team of direct reports and oversee the broader team of loaders and transporters.

● Set clear KPIs and performance benchmarks for the dispatch team.

● Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to improve efficiency and morale.

Planning & Coordination

● Collaborate with inventory, warehouse, and sales teams to align dispatch schedules with order fulfillment.

● Maintain close contact with suppliers and transporters to ensure seamless end-to-end logistics.

● Manage exceptions, delays, and issues proactively to ensure customer satisfaction.

Compliance & Reporting

● Ensure adherence to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) guidelines in daily operations.

● Generate and analyze dispatch and delivery reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.

● Maintain accurate records of all dispatch activities using an ERP system.

Innovation & Problem Solving

● Apply creative thinking to streamline dispatch operations and reduce delivery times.

● Continuously seek ways to improve route efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and service delivery.

● Develop contingency plans for operational disruptions.

Requirements

● Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

● Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in logistics or dispatch operations.

● Proven leadership experience managing dispatch/logistics teams.

● Experience working with or knowledge of ESG frameworks is a strong advantage.

● Demonstrated use of any ERP system in logistics operations.
