Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Logistics Executive to manage and coordinate end-to-end logistics, customs clearance, and cargo operations. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of international trade procedures, customs regulations, and freight forwarding processes, with hands-on experience in digital customs systems, including URA BWIMS and Mermidon systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee import and export shipments from origin to final destination.
- Manage customs clearance processes in compliance with national and regional regulations.
- Operate and process documentation through URA Digital Systems (BWIMS) and Mermidon System.
- Ensure accurate preparation and submission of shipping documentation (Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificates of Origin, etc.).
- Liaise with freight forwarders, clearing agents, transporters, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
- Monitor cargo movement and resolve shipment delays or discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with EAC customs procedures and international trade regulations.
- Manage inventory movements and coordinate with warehouse teams.
- Negotiate freight rates and manage relationships with logistics service providers.
- Maintain proper records and documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
- Prepare logistics performance reports and cost analysis.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and supply chain best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics, or related field.
- Minimum of 36 months (3 years) proven experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or customs clearance operations.
Required Certifications
- Certification in EACFFPC (East African Community Freight Forwarding and Customs Procedures).
- Certification in Customs Clearance.
- Certification in Import/Export Management.
Technical Competencies
- Hands-on experience with URA Digital Systems (BWIMS).
- Experience working with Mermidon System (highly desirable).
- Strong knowledge of:
- International trade regulations
- Freight forwarding processes
- Customs documentation and tariff classification
- Cargo handling and shipment coordination
- Incoterms and trade compliance
