Position Overview
- The Clinical Psychologist, working for Aspen Medical in support of the United Nations Office in Somalia (UNSOS), is responsible for providing mental health services to patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions for a variety of psychological conditions.
- The Clinical Psychologist will also contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and ensure that mental health services align with contemporary, evidence-based psychological guidelines.
- The role emphasizes clinical governance, ensuring patient safety, quality assurance, and adherence to evidence-based practices.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments to diagnose and understand patients' mental health conditions, including interviews, observations, and standardized psychological tests.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans based on thorough psychological assessments, patient needs, and best therapeutic practices.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date clinical records, ensuring all documentation meets legal and ethical standards.
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), or other therapeutic modalities.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers to ensure integrated and holistic care for patients.
- Participate in case reviews, audits, and clinical meetings to uphold clinical governance and ensure high standards of psychological care.
- Ensure the provision of safe and effective psychological services in line with UNSOS policies, local laws, and international standards.
- Follow established protocols for managing patient crises, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, or other emergencies, always ensuring patient safety.
- Provide psychological interventions and counseling in a culturally sensitive manner, considering the diverse backgrounds and needs of patients.
- Assist in the development and delivery of mental health programs aimed at promoting emotional well-being and reducing psychological distress among patients and staff.
- Support the management of mental health referrals to specialists or external mental health facilities when necessary.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to strict ethical standards regarding the handling of sensitive psychological information.
- Actively contributes to ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance psychological services and patient outcomes.
- Regularly review treatment outcomes, patient feedback, and other performance data to identify areas for improvement in psychological practices.
- Participate in training and professional development programs to stay updated on the latest advancements in psychological care.
- Provide feedback on service delivery and assist in the development or revision of policies, procedures, and treatment protocols to improve mental health care services.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and discussions to ensure consistent and coordinated care for all patients.
- Assist in conducting surveys or evaluations to assess the effectiveness of psychological services and identify opportunities for improvements.
- Ensure that all psychological assessments, diagnoses, and interventions align with the latest evidence-based practices and contemporary guidelines in clinical psychology.
- Stay informed on the latest research, treatments, and best practices in psychological care, incorporating new evidence into clinical work.
- Adhere to international standards and protocols for mental health treatment, including those set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other relevant bodies.
- Incorporate culturally competent practices in therapy and treatment planning, considering the diverse populations served by UNSOS.
- Ensure that psychological interventions are tailored to individual patient needs, based on empirical evidence and best practices in the field.
- Follow relevant ethical guidelines and frameworks, ensuring compliance with both international mental health standards and local regulations.
