WE’RE HIRING: EMBEDDED SYSTEMS DEVELOPER

Sandi AI Technologies is looking for a skilled Embedded Systems Developer based in Uganda to support the design, programming and optimization of IoT-enabled agricultural hardware for smart farming and precision irrigation.
The role will focus on building reliable hardware-software systems that collect field data and transmit agricultural telemetry over the internet for integration with the Sandi AI platform, weather information and satellite-driven agricultural insights.
Key Technical Responsibilities
• Develop firmware in C/C++ for low-power microcontrollers such as ESP32 or ARM Cortex-M
• Integrate environmental sensors, agricultural monitoring devices and related hardware
• Implement reliable and secure communication using MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, GSM/cellular or other IoT connectivity technologies
• Configure and manage hardware interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART and ADC
• Optimize devices for long-term field use through deep-sleep scheduling, low-power operation and efficient battery management
• Integrate field devices with cloud platforms, web backends and Sandi AI’s agricultural data systems
• Support integration of field-generated data with weather and satellite-derived insights for precision agriculture
• Conduct hardware bring-up, firmware testing, debugging and prototype validation
• Perform local field testing under real agricultural conditions in Uganda
• Troubleshoot hardware using tools such as multimeters, logic analyzers and oscilloscopes
• Validate the complete data pipeline from field devices to the online platform
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone with:
• Strong embedded C/C++ programming skills
• Experience with ESP32, ARM Cortex-M or similar microcontrollers
• Knowledge of RTOS and embedded firmware architecture
• Practical experience with IoT communication technologies and wireless modules
• Experience connecting embedded devices to cloud software, APIs or web backends
• Strong hardware debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Experience designing or deploying connected agricultural or environmental monitoring devices
• Understanding of power-efficient electronics for remote field deployment
• Knowledge of GPS, remote sensing, satellite data or precision agriculture systems is an added advantage
What Matters Most
We are particularly interested in developers who can demonstrate something they have actually designed, built, programmed and tested.
A portfolio showing previous IoT devices, embedded systems, connected hardware or agricultural technology projects will be highly valued.
Candidates must be based in Uganda and available for hands-on prototype development and field testing.
